Exceptional experience and a fantastic place to stay

My partner and I stayed at Fernside for 2 nights and were blown away. This place really is a hidden gem, tucked nicely into the quit countryside of Devon. Prior to arriving my partner called to check a few things and Linda could not have been more helpful. When we arrived, we were greeted by both Linda and Ian, who immediately made us feel right at home, they showed us around, gave us a breakfast menu from which we could choose the breakfast we'd like the next morning and then took us to our room. After showing us our room, Linda promptly returned with a thermos a fresh milk so we could have a coffee in our room. The room itself was stunning. A country living style decor, full ensuite bathroom with a separate waterfall shower and claw foot tub. Plenty of nice smelling lotions, fluffy towels and a robe each. Our room came with a TV, matching chest of drawers, dressing table and large dress mirror, wardrobe and king sized bed. Which was unbelievably comfortable! We arrived late in the evening so it was dark, but in the morning we were met by amazing views of the hills and the garden Linda and Ian keep beautifully maintained. There is also a pond you can walk to, and be sure to give the horses and apple each on your way which Ian will gladly provide from his kitchen. Lastly, the breakfast cooked by Ian is incredible. On the first morning we both had a starter of yoghurt and fruit, followed by smoked salmon with scrambled egg, home grown tomatoes with homemade bread (baked fresh that morning) all accompanied by a cafetiere a hot filtered coffee. You have a variety of breakfast options on the menu provided on arrival. We had a full English the next morning, all ingredients locally sourced and ordered grown and you can taste it! Overall, an effortlessly sophisticated experience with personalised touches at every corner. Please give Linda and Ian your business as they very much deserve every penny!

The perfect weekend escape!

We made a return visit after 11 years, and Ian and Linda were just as welcoming this visit as they were on our first. Even after 11 years, we were genuinely remembered as having stayed at Fernside before. Both Ian and Linda catered for our every need. The accommodation is still to the same high standard, and the breakfast is varied, with a wide choice of options.The location is perfect to have a few days away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, enjoying the peace and tranquility of the Devon countryside. Our only regret is not returning sooner!

Delightful location with beautifully tended gardens to look out over. Everything you might ever want in your room was thought of, and it was immaculately clean. And as for the breakfast, well what to say, it was just delicious. Fresh eggs from the hens and tomatoes freshly picked.

Little details are lovely: chocolates in the bedroom, decor beautiful & choice of different homemade breads at breakfast plus anything you chose from menu. Delicious! Everything was exceptional. The location was peaceful well off the main roads but the standard of accommodation and friendliness of Linda and Ian was worth the detour. The property was immacutely clean and very comfortable The breakfast was beautifully cooked and plentiful with homemade bread and jams. We were made to feel very welcome and enjoyed our stay. We shall return in the future when travelling that way.

Wonderful place for a quiet stay with the greatest views

Our room was marvellous with a great bed and stand-alone bath and shower, both with old style robinets. The wooden inner doors are so beautiful. All is high end quality. We had a selection of teas and coffee with daily fresh milk in our room. The choice of breakfast was abundant with homemade granola, fresh fruit, porridge, full cooked breakfast and even salmon and eggs. Too much to ask. Linda and Ian are wonderful hosts who were happy to help in any way. The views over the countryside are breathtaking. One morning we counted 60 pheasants from our window!

As it is tucked away, you need a gps to find it. The roads are very narrow. At the same time this adds to the exceptional experience of this wonderful place.

Super in every way!

We loved everything about Fernside we had excellent communication from Linda and Ian prior to arrival. They were welcoming and friendly hosts. The bedroom/bathroom and facilities were better than indicated in the photos. With lovely, thoughtful touches. We are both vegetarian and the breakfast was absolutely delicious. Views from our room were all spectacular.

Beautiful location, very peaceful. Lovely pre-order breakfast, Cooked well and excellent produce. Nothing was too much trouble. Comfy bed, big room, nice biscuits and water, very clean and balcony had a beautiful view. Nice to have fresh milk in a flask for tea.

Great stay, perfect little getaway - beautiful location and lovely character house. Stayed 1 night and it was just fab. Hosts were very attentive and the room was just great. The breakfast was also amazing, especially with the setting. In the country so don't expect a pub just around the corner. Hosts helpful re; evening eating places with several nice options. We ended up at an american grill shack - ridiculous amounts of food, couldn't finish but fun and extraordinally good value. see tripadvisor for more info. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we would definitely book again.
