We stayed only one night and had memorable experience at Nikko Tokanso!
Staff was welcoming and attentive, and the room and onsen were clean and well kept.
As a family with kids we enjoyed the location, the staff courtesy and the fantastic dinner and breakfast they provided.

The provided meals were not food that I was used to, but they were prepared and served very well. The room was very spacious for a solo traveller, and a family could share the room with little difficulty.

Nothing in particular.
The lady on the front-desk was not very kind or empathetic to a request for aide with transportation. It wasn't the fact that she was unable to help, it was her entire tone and demeanor. That severely soured the mood for me. The breakfast was also underwhelming, and my Japanese partner refered to it as "unacceptable" when I showed him pictures. It is barely on the line of "acceptable" for foreign guests who aren't really familiar with Japanese hospitality.
