The accommodation at Sonmatten Boutique Hotel & Apartments was, without exaggeration, one of the most enjoyable travel experiences I’ve had in Zermatt — a rare blend of authentic Alpine charm, modern comfort, and truly outstanding service.
The location is excellent, peaceful and slightly removed from the busiest areas, yet still very well connected to the town center and ski lifts. The mountain views are absolutely breathtaking, especially in the morning — with the iconic Matterhorn creating a picture-perfect backdrop.
The rooms are beautifully designed, combining traditional Swiss style with contemporary amenities. Everything is impeccably clean, and the attention to detail is evident throughout — from the quality materials to the thoughtful touches that elevate the entire stay.
What truly sets this place apart is the hospitality. The staff are exceptionally warm, professional, and attentive, always ready to assist while maintaining a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. It genuinely feels like they care about each guest’s experience.

To be honest, I can’t really point out anything negative. Everything — the location, the amenities, the hosts and the food (the schnitzel was excellent!) — was spot on. It’s rare to find a place where you genuinely have nothing to complain about.

I like that the shuttle bus stop is right outside the hotel, and you can enjoy an unobstructed view of the Matterhorn from the backyard lounge area. The hotel also looks modern and clean, with a designated area for skis and ski boots. I asked for more towels and coffee capsules, and they provided them.
There’s no elevator, and I wish the rooms were better soundproofed so I wouldn’t hear the pounding from upstairs. I also wish the ski room were slightly better designed so seating wouldn’t run out so quickly. It would also be nice if there were a heating system for drying towels.

They provided croissants for breakfast, but I wish more was involved for breakfast.

we stayed at studio marmelli, it was well stocked with kitchenette for us to cook simple meals. good view in the morning. The restaurant burger was good.
The blonde lady that attended to us come off sarcastic because she said she already sent the email for us a week ago for self check in, and we didnt check. We overlooked it because we have been traveling in Europe.
When she lead us outside, she open the pdf she sent and told us just follow it and we will reach in 5mins. The split road was right infront of us and she couldn’t be bothered to point us the right way, we went down the wrong way infront of her and was going back and forth until we climbed back up the slope back to where we were in the beginning and realised we were walking down a wrong steep slope, along with a heavy luggage and backpack. She said “oh u will see this house name bar smth and just enter thru the backdoor” I expected the name to be written big and obvious, but it was not, we had to pin drop the actual location and had to find that house with that exact name which was down a slope at the back of the house, not easy to spot.
Totally do not appreciate this kind of attitude, you want to host, host like proper one. This isn’t even a boutique hotel standard, it is at best a good and well equipped bnb. The bad will always overshadow the good, and it always start with the attitude. The least is to be hospitable.
