Very nice and clean place with friendly, helpful staff.
There was a very strong and unpleasant smell in the room (n.8).

The exclusive location on First. Able to take nice photo when the crowd left.
Staff are great, friendly and all out to help.
Bit inconvenient for elder and young kids as the bathroom is outside the room. Anyway, good experience.

The location is cool and very unique. The staff are super friendly.
The rooms are cramped. There are hooks but otherwise there’s no place to store your things. Also one bunkbed was really creaky.

The location is absolutely exceptional — once the last cable car goes down, you have the entire mountain to yourself. Total peace and quiet, with breathtaking sunrises and sunsets all around. It’s the perfect spot if you want to enjoy Bachalpsee Lake without the crowds, as the cable cars start too late for sunrise and finish too early for sunset.
The staff were excellent, friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was decent with everything you need before a day of hiking.
The only downside is the price, which is on the higher side — especially once you factor in the cost of the cable car to reach the hotel. Still, for the experience of having the mountain to yourself, it’s absolutely worth it.
Price is a bit steep

A little difficult to navigate, no shower soap.

This is one of the coolest places in the world I’ve ever stayed. Just look at the photos and you’ll understand. I would not pass up the opportunity to book a night or two.

I'm pleased everytime to be back. Well good organized lodge in the mountains, away from stress and noises, amazing view over Grindelwald and in front of the Eiger.
Personnel good, food ok, great atmosphere
The cable car is pretty expensive (well, it's Switerland)

The beautiful surroundings. The feeling of being away from the crowds and having the area to ourselves. One of the bartenders was very kind and friendly. I wish I remembered his name. I believe he said he was from Poland and he had his degree in Accounting. We really enjoyed talking with him. He made our stay much more enjoyable!!
The only thing that was a little offputting was that the view from our room was not the best. There was an area right outside our room that people could walk to (before the last gondola) rather than looking out the window to only mountains. I inquired if we could be moved right after viewing our room and we were told no. It was surprisingly dead there that day so I was surprised they didn’t have us in a room with one of the best views. We were the only ones in the bar area the whole time and only 4 other ppl were at breakfast. Never saw anyone on the trails around the hotel after the last gondola left. The point is the hotel was far from full. It would’ve been nice to have a room with the better view because that was the whole point in staying there.

This was the best stays I had in Jungfrau region. The view was amazing, it is 10/10. When day tourist are gone, you have the place all to yourself. Relaxing, quiet, and peaceful. You can star gazed as well at midnight and there are so many stars and meteors. Magical place. The breakfast option is also really good. You should try the cheese, delicious.
I arrived here from a very long flight, having to push my luggage to take the cable car then to the top and then when I inquired where to check in, the staffs were quite rude. They could have just said where and not add side comments, the place for check in isn't easy to see. But anyways other than that, the woman who assisted me was friendly. I just avoided asking them altogether and just go on my way or observe others if I have something I don't understand.

Fantastic location at the top of a ridge. Very busy during the day with day-trippers enjoying the views and the outdoor terraces. We had a bunk room on the ground floor. To get to it we had to go through a ski locker room and the First Aid room (ski patrol) entrance. There were plenty of toilets and showers just down the hall, plenty of hot water.
There was a special seating for dinner for the overnight guests in a separate dining room, and there was breakfast included in the breakfast room (buffet of breads, cheeses, some meats, yogurt, fruit). Plenty of food.
Bunk room included fluffy comforters, convenient outlets to charge phones.
We had great sunrise views and had the viewing platforms to ourselves in the early morning.
Our ground floor window was directly under and behind the outdoor stairs up to the terrace bar; at one point a member of the public came up and looked in our window to see what was inside.
One humorous thing was trying to order a hard cider; our waitress spoke only basic German and basic English, and thought we were ordering champagne, then Apple juice. We finally sorted it out!

Phenomenonal location, great food, friendly staff. It's a perfect place to base your hikes from, too.
Everyone visiting Grindelwald should spend at least one night here!
There's only one negative and that's that the last cable car leaves Grindelwald at 5:30pm. So if you're in the valley, you need to finish up everything before then to return to First.

Breathtaking Mountain Scenery
As night settled at the mountain’s peak, there was little to do but wait in stillness.

Absolutely lovely. Nice and big, feels pretty luxurious, and the views are the BEST. My favorite part were the views and direct access to the First hike. Decent breakfast, could be better but not bad. Staff was honestly so nice, cool people, friendly and approachable. Place is clean and peaceful.
On the one hand, it is kind of costly for it being a hostel but on the other hand, it is a decent price for what it provides in terms of quality views and accommodation. I didn’t really like the fact that it’s only accessible through cable car but yet it is not included in the price. Howeverrr, if you’ll be doing the first hike, this doesn’t matter because you would’ve had to pay for the cable car to get up there anyway.

Room view and facilities were much better than expected. Really liked uncrowded quiet deck lounge, night and morning. Strong recommendation for sunset and sunrise landscape photography.
Check-out time due needs a bit extended from 10am.

Fantastic location and excellent dinner & breakfast.
The crowds!

What is not to like about visiting a prime location at a budget price. Grindelwalt First is a prime location that you will have all to yourself (and fellow guests) when day trippers have left the mountain. Such a beautiful spot.
The staff were under pressure and understaffed. The dinner we were served at CHF30 was not worth it. A mince patty with mash and onion gravy. A side salad of a few mixed leaves, 1 slice tomato and dressing. For dessert a still half frozen, very dry carrot cake. There was a Hoka event on during the day and an ultra-marathon the next morning which added to the busyness.
I was not aware that you cannot buy a return cable car ticket for 2 days. If taking the cable car (and not walking) it will cost 2x the fare. 1 fare for arrival day & 1 fare for departure day.

A truly unreal and memorable experience to stay here! The views were out of this world. Highly recommend waking up early to catch the sunrise on the lake with nobody else there! Staff were very welcoming and the breakfast was delicious with fresh croissants too.

Location is amazing!
Snug bed in wooden alcove in dorm.
Nice having the mountains to yourself after all the other tourists have gone down on the last cable car.
Flys, I know these can’t be helped - not sure why the hotel doesn’t put in an electric fly zapper. There were flys everywhere at dinner, literally crawling over us and our food. In the morning we went down to breakfast but didn’t eat as the food was crawling with flys.

Location was great. Staff was friendly. Tip: If you want to avoid the queue for cable car, it's better to go for check-in at 5 pm during summer peak season.
In the men's shower, the water flow was very less/slow. We went in summer, there were flies sitting on the food sometimes. The breakfast was okayish.

The peace and quiet that comes with the last cable car taking day trippers back down the mountain - only the guests and down hikers remain. Everything goes from Instagramming chaos to calmness. The overnight stayers have the chance to explore the Skywalk and surroundings almost alone - it's wonderful to be able to experience this like this. The food is simple but tasty and satisfying.
The rooms are a little more basic that expected. But the beds are comfy and clean. The doors aren't very soundproof (we had a room opposite the entrance to the toilets and shower room - but a beautiful view of the mountain range opposite the hotel - win some/lose some).

Unbeatable location
No bathroom en-suite. Only shared bathrooms
The included Breakfast was minimal.

Such a beautiful spot, I got really lucky with there only being a couple other people in the room. The view from the room was insane, and it was great watching the sun rise. Ana looked after us for the night and she was amazing! During dinner we felt like a real VIPs.
It was great to be able to spend time at First without the crowds, we even got to see the local fox and mountain goats.
The beds were really comfy, but I recommend bringing an eye mask since there's no blinds.
I think it would be good to have a lock on the entrance to the hut, but I didn't have any issues during my stay.

The views from my room were amazing. The bed was really comfortable. The showers were brilliant. There was a nice continental spread for breakfast.
I was clear it was at the top of the cable car. I wasn’t clear that the main restaurant there closes at 5 before the last gondola down so dinner is a fixed menu. I wish that had been made clearer. The style is more of a bunkhouse than a hotel and I wasn’t quite expecting that. It wasn’t easy to check in as lunchtime is so busy at the restaurant where the ‘reception’ desk is. Most staff were rushing around and didn’t give you their attention. I will say the member of staff who did check me in was really helpful. Overall it wasn’t what I was expecting and it was a fine experience but I probably wouldn’t go again. Also, if you’re heading up there for the Bachalpsee lake, lower your expectations or you will be underwhelmed!

The location was spectacular. The staff offered really nicer service and the breakfast was great. Only problem was it was a bit expensive for food there, but that’s what you have to expect when going to Switzerland.
Just the expensive food prices but everything else was fantastic.
