A lovely small hotel with a friendly atmosphere. The host and staff friendly and welcoming. The food was amazing we had the set evening meal which I would highly recommend, you do need to book in advance. Gorgeous dog Runa who is allowed to visit if guests wish but otherwise stays inside. The small pool area allowed us to cool off and relax after a day out.

Due to the age of this gorgeous property the plug sockets are unusual. I would recommend bringing a battery bank for phone charging.

We had a wonderful stay at Il Castagnolino. The location is stunning, surrounded by the beautiful Tuscan countryside and only a short drive from San Gimignano. The room was comfortable, clean, and quiet, providing the perfect place to relax. The hosts were extremely welcoming and made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. Breakfast was excellent, with fresh local products and a lovely atmosphere. The views at sunrise and sunset were unforgettable. We truly appreciated the authentic Tuscan experience and would gladly return.

There was very little to dislike. The countryside location is part of its charm, so having a car is helpful. Other than that, everything met or exceeded our expectations.

Wonderful setting - lovely, clean room with air conditioning. Fabulous buffet breakfast (outside) and a fabulous local Tuscan evening 4 course meal (additional charge make sure you book in advance). Lovely pool area.

1. Carmella is very short-tempered. Another reviewer had described it as walking on eggshells around her. Very true. 2. We read nothing online in the description or in any reviews about the multiple stairs to get to the apartment and into the bathroom (see photo)! If you choose to stay here, and you do not want to haul your suitcases up a large flight of steep marble stairs, be sure to ask for first floor rooms. 3. Description clearly states toiletries provided. We received an extremely small sliver of soap which was scotch taped in brown paper, and two shower gels in paper packets that were impossible to open in the shower. Bring scissors with you into the shower. Two people for three nights, and although our bed was made every day, the shower packets were never replaced. 4. Carmela is often defensive in her responses to somewhat negative reviews… It will be interesting to see how she responds to this one…It was unfortunately a somewhat stressful stay for the four of us.
