Great city centre hotel, at an excellent price when we stayed

Great location. Spacious room with 2 double size beds. Quality bedding too.

The hot water was not very hot - couldn’t actually have a bath, and shower was just warm, not hot. Unfortunately the swimming pool was closed for the morning we would have used it, which was disappointing. Staff offered to get us a taxi to go to their sister hotel to use pool there.

Disappointing

The location was good to explore the city. the communcal spaces were large. The little plastic duck placed on bed so that we could use it in our photos - nice idea.

There are steps up into the foyer, and it might be a good idea to have a suitcase ramp. The last step of these steps is higher than all the other steps, and unexpected, on hte way down I would have fallen if it wasnt for 2 ladies who stabilised me as I was falling. I booked this hotel for the use of a pool and gym. They were both 'under construction' when we arrived, and could not be used. The hotel offered transport tickets to another one of their hotels to be able to use their gym (or was it the pool?). This was not acceptable due to the inconvenience and time required. Plus, it rained for most of the 3 daya we were there , so hardly nice travelling in the rain. Why was this not advertised on their website? We should have been informed and given the choice to book elsewhere. There was plenty of other accommodation without pool and gym, less expensive naturally, so I feel my money was wasted. There was no hot water when we arrived. The airline had lost my luggage. This had meant we arrived 1.5 hours later than anticpiated, about 1am and we were tired after travelling 27 hours and just wanted a warm shower and to go to sleep. Reception just apologised and said they would look into it. By this time I was fairly annoyed and asked to speak to manager. he apologised and offered an alternative room, which, surprise surprise, had no hot water either and delayed going to bed even more. As compensation we were offered a free breakfast for the following morning. Breakfast was buffet style and pleasant. The following day breakfast had been moved to another floor, to smaller facilities, with reduced choices, as the dining area was now 'under construction.' What made this whole experience more unpleasant was the receptionist on duty when we arrived. She kept on repeating 'under construction' sentence, and could not see how frustrating this matter was as we had paid for something we were not going to receive.

Great location with a great view of the castle

Great location and it was nice having a pool to relax in after a day exploring. On site parking was nice to have and seemed reasonably priced.

The bed wasn't very comfy. We asked for hypoallergenic pillows (non feather) and were told none were available which led to a poor sleep during our stay. There was also some confusion with house keeping requests. No individual room control for heating.

Brilliant staff, lovely hotel and rooms perfect.

On Arriving there was ample parking and easy to access. The man in reception that booked us in was just amazing and as he explained all, chatted to me and my lady, went out his way to tell us where to go if we were going out in the evening. He just made our first touch of the hotel feel personal, and caring. He set all off perfectly a breath of fresh air and his friendly nature, professional capability just was just outstanding. I work as a Quality Assurance Director and business auditor for investors groups and that one person impressed more than I have seen for many years. The facilities, room, position and staff were all very good and we will be back soon. Even the young lad who was cleaning the rooms and we met him in the lift was helpful, chatty. Great job hotel.

The cost £279 per night room only. The room really wasn’t good enough to justify that. The heat. The room was hot as hell. Could open the windows to allow air in without inviting in the chaos from the street below

Lovely hotel in a great location

The hotel is in a fantastic location, close to the royal mile and loads of attractions. Lots of restaurants and bars nearby. Beds were very comfortable. Lively to have the pool and sauna to relax in.

Location was the best part of this hotel! Right in the heart of the Grass Market area. Nicely designed room was large with lots of storage space for luggage and belongings. Bed was comfy. Room was very cute. Loved the water bottle refill stations in the hallways.

We were given a wheelchair accessible room (we did not request this) and water in the shower went everywhere as there is no ledge along the ground. We requested additional towels to prevent the water flooding issue and never received them. Hotel does not have air conditioning anywhere in the building but they supply fans. Only problem was our room was located above the outdoor smoking area of the hotel. So although they recommend opening the window to cool down the room, we were unable to do so because the strong cigarette smell was entering our room.

Wonderful Stay in the City of Edinburgh

We had a wonderful stay at the Apex Grassmarket Hotel in Edinburgh. The rooms were spotlessly clean, tastefully decorated, and the beds were exceptionally comfortable—perfect after a day of exploring. The staff were consistently friendly and helpful, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The location couldn’t be better—right in the heart of the Old Town, just a short walk from Edinburgh Castle and surrounded by great restaurants and pubs. We especially enjoyed the hotel’s lounge and restaurant, which offered a relaxing atmosphere and lovely views. The underground parking was a convenient bonus, especially in such a busy area. Overall, the Apex Grassmarket Hotel delivered on comfort, service, and location. We would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Edinburgh.

The plug in bathroom did not work meaning no bath. Long black hairs in bath too. Noisy as we were facing the entrance to their event space.

Comfortable stay with a great view.

Friendly staff. Good sized room with view. Facilities in room were very good and no shortage of shower/bath shampoo, conditioner , wash and body lotion. Bed was firm and comfortable. Lifts were quiet and worked well. Breakfast was excellent. Staff were cheerful and cooked breakfast orders were taken and served at table. Bar and food available Didn’t try swimming pool etc so can’t comment on that facility. Paid for upgrade to room with castle view which was great. Staff keen to assist if any information needed.

Three short flights of steps to reception and lifts. Partner found these difficult as he has mobility difficulties. Check-in was stressful - a coach group arrived and swamped area and I had to wait to as staff were issuing keys to group first. Foyer by lift was being utilised as entry for Fringe event ( I think) and was crowded at times. Breakfast area again, short flights of steps down into the buffet area and back up to table so partner didn’t attempt access.
