Hotel Palacio Muñatones

Very friendly hosts, very willing to help with anything. Lovely clean rooms. Very close to the power station, but good for the port.

Only continental breakfast, may have chosen not to include it if we had known.

A beautiful hotel where a warm welcome awaits you. Very conveniently located for access to Bilbao Port. Lovely breakfast with plenty of fresh produce and choices for adults and children. 5 minute drive from a beautiful beach and restaurant area

It is the perfect place to stay if you are catching the ferry just a 15 minute drive away. We had a booking for the night before the ferry but at the last minute decided to make the 900km drive from France in a day instead of two so arrived very late the day before and really appreciated the owner waiting for us. We had booked a room in the actual Hotel but found it didn’t have AC so we moved to a little cabin (1 of 5) beside the Hotel still within the gated area with AC which was very comfortable. Parking almost at the door à la American Motels was so handy for sorting the luggage. A significant difference though is that there is nothing in the room, no kettle ,no fridge. There are toiletries (Toothbrush/ comb/ shoe shine/ shaving set/ Shampoo and Shower Gel) but not even a bottle of water which was kind of strange.

The lack of food, Breakfast is provided at €9 pp but no other food is available and there is very little on offer in the locality. The attitude of the owners around food is a bit strange. Given that a cafeteria is advertised on the promotional literature but is unavailable perhaps allowing guests to have access to the microwave which is available at breakfast would be good. We drove around to three different Restuarants , all finished serving or not starting for another two hours…. one eventually sold us some tortillas which we brought back to the Hotel. While the lady of the house did agree to microwave them for us it did come across as an inconvenience for her and made us reluctant to as for anything further.

The bed was comfortable and the room was new and clean, with air con.

Really loud noise from the oil refinery standing right outside the window from the newly built annex rooms, where we stayed. The refinery works all night and the machinery noise can be heard loudly inside the room even with closed windows. We used ear plugs and the noise could even be heard through them. When we walked in at night and realised how loud it was, we looked at each other in disbelief: 130 euros for that! Moreover we were given the keys to the wrong room on arrival, so we walked into someone else's room with our stuff, which the people staying there were really annoyed about. The owner told me off for having walked in when in front of the other guests (!!) and apologised when she was alone with us. The worst value for money hotel we have stayed in. Bonus info: they told us they don't make any food since the pandemic, so the pictures showing the restaurant are misleading.
