Organized environment, polite staff, strategic location, good service at a worthwhile price.

I like the comfortable beds, the clean smell of the sheets and towels, the staff are very attentive. At the last minute I asked if it was possible to change rooms to have better internet access and without hesitation they made the change for me. Not to mention that the hotel makes me feel safe; they know I like to have breakfast, so they provide a kettle and cups for my room. I recommend it and always stay at this hotel because I feel comfortable and at home thank you very much.

These are basic things, but it doesn't always happen; there's a lack of shampoo and bath soap, but that's resolved quickly when you send a message, as they respond quickly to any information they need.

A good hotel in a convenient location.

A good location with a 15 minute easy walk from the Central Station and easy to find.. We arrived late evening, but had clear instructions on the self entry system and this was easy to use which is good when you are tired. The hotel was on a main road but very little traffic noise in the room .The room was a decent size and comfortable with a sofa and a small table as well as space to store clothes etc. The bathroom had a good shower and facilities and was very clean. We only saw a staff member on leaving but he was very pleasant. We would stay here again.

We booked twin beds as two friends travelling together, but the two single beds were made up as a double with a double sheet although two duvets, so we had to split them and sort an extra bottom sheet. Wasn't difficult though but had expected two single beds. There was a lot of water noise from the room next door during the first night which disturbed our sleep, although none the following night. Probably more to do with the guests next door using the bathroom in the early hours, but more sound insulation would have been good. Room and hotel was otherwise quiet. Not a complaint but we would have really liked some basic tea and coffee making facilities in the room, although this might not be standard in German hotels as we didn't have this elsewhere either.

The Storch delivers

• The room interior looks cleaner & better than the exterior areas. It's not fantastic but it's better than you'd think. • Check-in starts at 13:00 (1:00 PM). Compared to most hotels that start check-in at 15:00 (3:00 PM), this can make a big difference if you arrive in Köln early, or if you're moving from one hotel to the next. Less waiting around.

Check-out is too early. Most hotels will let you check out at 12:00 or later. This hotel wants you to check out at 10:00 or 11:00. I suppose this is how they're able to offer such an early check-in, but it's still something to look out for.

Value for Money

I read a few reviews prior to booking and hotel exceeded my expectations. It was clean, comfortable and in a good location. The rooms are small but that's to be expected for a budget hotel in a central location. The lack of lift is not an issue as that is made clear by the hotel.

Would have liked the checkout to be an hour later 11 instead of 10. This is also explained prior to booking so just something I would have liked.But still would recommend if you want a budget hotel that's clean, comfortable and in a good location.

Comfortable enough and good value for only a 2 night trip. No real issues or complaints.

Big room and bed. Pretty clean. Good location.

Very small and tight bathroom. No elevator had to carry heavy luggage upstairs. Not sound proof between rooms.

Felt we had done a survival course staying here but friendly treatment helped!

Clean bathroom and room. Help on arrival but glad we had a little german; friendly English speaking help on departure. Good wifi connection. Good hot water in easily operated shower. There was a very nice organic cafe (cafe goldjunge) across the road for breakfast/light lunch (we went 9 am. Not sure how early it opens. 105 euros per room per night and fairly central was reasonable… but there were quite a lot of drawbacks especially for elderly visitors. Location ok for good walkers but not on an obvious bus route into town.

Could be described as “rooms” rather than “hotel” Ring a street entrance bell for buzzed in entry then steepish flight to desk for registration then 6 more flights of stairs (all currently ducktaped for redecorating) to our top floor rooms. Even though knew in advance no lift, quite an undertaking. Bathroom- No glass or even a paper cup to drink from or take medicines. Curtain very worn in smaller room. If you want tea or coffee in room byo everything you need! Larger of our rooms couldn’t be locked from inside.

Rude host, expensive room but doable for two nights

While the building was under constructions, our room was recently renewed and comfortable. The downside was the bathroom as having a shower meant flooding the whole bathroom and they didn't have hangers to put your towels on. It seemed to be near many transport links.

The man at the 'reception' was rude and ruined the experience. He seemed to be pissed off at the fact that we were Italian and travelling with a dog (for which we asked prior permission and paid extra) and completely sarcastic and with lack of empathy towards my elderly father with mobility issues. When he told us the room was on the top floor, and I kindly asked if they had a lift since my dad could barely walk, his reply was a laugh with 'go for a walk'. Completely rude and unnecessary to treat paying guests like that.

Ok for a 2/3 day stay.

Centrally located. Walking distance to Cologne's train station, Cathedral and Cologne's christmas markets. Also walking distance to Rudolfplatz where one can visit a beautifully set christmas market and lots of restaurants and shops.

No lift at the property. We had to climb 3 storeys to our room. This property was also being renovated and it could do with some more frequent housekeeping.

I booked a room with an external bathroom, but I didn't expect to have to go downstairs to use the toilet. The hotel was under renovation and not finished yet. I found it quite expensive for what it was.

Our weekend was spoiled of hotel’s repair works

So, there is the receptionist was not bad. The bed is quite comfortable and bedsheets was clear. Good location, we could arrived to the city center between fifteen-twenty minutes. Also there is a Spain restaurant on the opposite street with absolutely awesome dishes, very close to a small lake with calm atmosphere and some kiosks near to hotel (we was able to bought some fruits at night).

And now the most interesting part. Our room was dirty when we came there at first, then the receptionist gave us a key for the new one. This room was on some repair floor, the aisle looked like in horror movie. O’kay. The room was smaller, there is no space for two people, bathroom looked not really comfortable and absolutely different from photo, but at least she was quite clear . The biggest surprise waiting of us in the morning. From 7 a.m. the repairing works was starred in the next room. Drill sounds, russian filthy language, music and cigarettes’ smell (we think builders smoked just in a room because we felt this smell from our bathroom hood) - our day was spoiled. We don’t had good sleep because of all of these and didn’t have much energy for our trip. Next morning was the same situation. Also we met one of these builders when we trying to left our room. He started watching at us like we are something very interesting, like he didn’t see women before. This hotel experience was terrible!
