Parking at San Carlos is crazy, as there’s not nearly enough parking at the complex—I’m not sure there’s enough for even one car per unit! “Overflow” parking is across a four-lane highway, to which there is no close crosswalk or traffic signal. Three elevators serve the entire complex, and wait times are often long, especially when one or even two of the elevators are out of service (yes, during our stay two were out). The unit we rented is simply “tired”, but it doesn’t appear to have ever been “nice”, as the appliances and most furnishings seem to be hand-me-downs or bargain finds. The property itself looks good at a distance, but upon closer inspection, there doesn’t appear to be much daily maintenance/cleaning. The specific unit we rented was not clean enough for us upon check-in, but others may have settled for its level of “clean”; we however cleaned it ourselves and cleaned up a lot of crumbs, sand and hair. None of this ruined our stay, and we loved Gulf Shores, but we’re probably not staying at this complex again and definitely not in the same unit, unless it undergoes a significant remodel and upgrade.
