For a one night trip it was alright on the whole. Wouldn’t stay any longer as we didn’t get much sleep with the mattress

This property is in an ideal location right in the heart of the town. The facilities are very clean, and there is a kettle, tea, coffee, milk and biscuits and a hairdryer provided. Breakfast was also lovely with very friendly staff.

The only gripe was the beds. The mattresses are very old and worn down, not the comfiest and very creaky which disturbed sleep each time you turned over.

A cheap stay in a lovely location.

The bed was incredibly comfortable and I had a great night sleep here. The staff were all friendly and made me feel very welcome. They all deserve credit for the effort they put into running the hotel and pub.

Hot water completely failed in morning. Not temperature, no water at all. We had a water leak from the roof of our room, may have been connected to hot water issue. UHT milk was curdled.

Room was clean, very spacious for a king sized room and good amount of lighting. Breakfast was very good apart from continental option.

Taps were loose on the sink (wasnt able to report this as found in the morning and no office staff available). Found a hair in one of the croissants when cutting into it.

Unbelievable value for money!

My brother and myself stopped here after day 2 of a bike packing trip. On arrival we were told we could leave our bikes indoors in the reception area. We were also given 2 drinks tokens for the bar which was a very nice surprise. The room was warm, clean and plenty big enough for 2. We had dinner at the bar and by the time we had ordered 2 mains, 3 sides and 4 pints (using our vouchers) it came to a grand total of £21. In the morning we had a very good full cooked breakfast that was also included in the price at booking. This is obviously a very old building which does have its faults but I think the value for money that you get with the Carlton hotel is almost unheard of. I would definitely use this hotel again.

Good value budget hotel centrally located - give the breakfast a miss

It's a budget hotel with no lift, shared facilities with limited parking outside (although plenty of free parking within a short walk). The building is a bit dated but my room was fine, clean and well equipped. Staff were pleasant enough and the free drink voucher was a nice touch. It met my expectations given the price.

If they are going to do breakfast at all, they should probably focus on a half decent continental breakfast with some pastries and filter coffee rather than that abomination of a cooked breakfast. There are other options nearby if you need hot food.

The bar downstairs is not friendly. Awkward to check in, when they are loudly talking about how they do not like tourists. Patrons in the bar are undesirable but the bar can not choose their clients.

Bathroom and kitchen good except for ventilation. Beds good and clean.

Windows mostly painted in and wouldn’t open. Lighting random, no bedside lights. Ventilation lacking. Main bar closed. Upstairs bar sparse and service limited. Office not manned. Entrance area shabby and not clean which was not welcoming.

Loved my stay! I will be back.

Very good budget hotel. Room was lovely, bed very comfy and the room was clean enough apart from a bit of dusting needed. Staff was friendly too. Breakfast was delicious, hats off to the chef. For what we paid I will defo be back!!

Shared bathroom smelled of sewage, maybe pipes need looked at and cleaned. No small sofa for sitting to read a book or chill, I’d recommend adding this to create a cosy space. Some things looked worn out in the entrance.

The Staff were very friendly and helpful. We arrived after a long hot day cycling and were greeted with a token for a free drink at the bar. The cool bear was most appreciated. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. Ear plugs were provided and very useful for when the seagulls started the dawn chorus (this sound is to be fully expected in places close to the coast). The hotel stay is very good value for those with an eye on their budget. I had a shared bathroom but was unaware that anybody else had used it. The bathroom was clean, modern and well decorated. The shower was lovely.The Carlton is is my go to place to stay in Forres. My thanks to all the staff.

Great value for money and very welcoming.

The staff at the Carlton are stars, everyone one was super friendly and made us feel very welcome. Our two large dogs were made just as welcome, even got sausages at breakfast. The room was clean, modern and comfortable. Breakfast was filling and tasty with both cooked and continental options. The stay was certainly value for money. We would stay again in a heartbeat.

Needs renovating and to decide if it wants to be night club or hotel

Centrally located

Many maintenance issues including no hot water for part of stay, broken shower doors, slug trails in rooms. Breakfast items not replenished without asking, another guest gratefully bought some bread from coop opposite for everyone as she was informed there was no more bread. The worst thing about the hotel however was that the hotel also operates as a late night bar / music club (till 01.30) for young loud crowds who accumulate and shout outside the bedroom windows, even a bike was left on the internal stairs to the rooms. Ear plugs are provided but did not help me unfortunately. Night staff informed us about possibility of bag storage, day staff asked said there is no bag storage.

Comfortable and inexpensive, with a unique and lovely atmosphere.

I liked the vibe of the hotel, staff were very friendly and excellent value for money. It was very handy for letting call tourist attractions. Breakfast was included and we were given two complimentary drinks vouchers to use in the bar.

It was a bit noisy in the evening, but that was to be expected given we were on the main street. We were also provided earplugs, which we ultimately did not need but was a nice touch.

Needs more attention.

This was sold as a two bedroom apartment but is in fact one bedroom with a bed in the lounge. There was no bedside lamps and when asked about this the staff did nothing. It was a shame because the place had been done up and just needed someone to give it a bit more attention to detail.

Good value for money

Very friendly staff who made us feel very welcome. The cooked breakfast was really nice and set us up for the next part of our journey. The room was clean and we had a good nights sleep.

Didn't like the glass doors on the room which was at right angles to the door on next room. Felt that the net curtain wasn't enough and needed heavier one. It is an old building but the stairs to our room on second floor seemed very steep. Would ask for a room on first floor if staying in the area again.

It’s downtown. Free complimentary drink in the bar. Breakfast was ok even if it wasn’t what I’m used to.

Not clean. Mold in ceiling, rattling window, door was hardly a door. Not very quiet as door had glitches.

Overall though, the stay was alright.

I liked the proximity of this hotel to the grocery store, bus stops, post office, bank, pubs and restaurants.

Sharing a toilet and shower room. However, the room was quite large. It was a bummer that there was nowhere to put my toiletries or clothes, no desk or cupboard to put stuff on. The toilet seat was in dire need of being fixed as it was about to come off the toilet. The shower door did not close properly and needs repairing (water leaked out onto the floor). I appreciate that I shared this shower/toilet room with only one other guest. That made it passable in terms of whether or not to stay there again.
