Alikias Country House

We had a wonderful stay in Alikias Country House. The location was great, in land nestled among olive and fruit trees and a short drive to the nearest beach, Limnonari. It was on the main coastal road around the South part of the island which meant it was near the beaches on the west coast. The property was well equipped for a week's holiday, although we would have preferred a washing machine. The bedrooms were spacious and we had enough room to fit a family of five pleasantly. The house was presented to us clean and tidy. We loved the outside space. The veranda was enormous and there was a balcony upstairs that was a delight to sit and sip morning coffee and play evening cards. The outdoor furniture was amazing too, plenty of it and functional. Our hosts were very kind and courteous, spoke English well and were responsive. All in all, a beautiful place to holiday, we would thoroughly recommend this as a place for an island holiday. PS We also saw a lovely cat that stayed close to the house and who was very sweet. We decided to give it a name, Luna.

We would have found it useful to have a washing machine.

Quiet country setting. Nice breeze most of the day, nice view, spacious, clean and well kept home. The beach was a few minutes drive down.

The only thing is that it has one bathroom which was a bit hard with 5 people.

Great location for your base on Skopelos. The house really gives you a home feel and so do the hosts. The garden is such a bonus.

All was to our liking.

The property exceed our expectations. Starting from the outside: First of all, it is very quiet with no immediate neighbours. Most of what you'll hear is nature sounds. One thing to note in this regard is that the neighbours, who are a bit farther away, do keep chickens and roosters so you will be hearing those a lot. Personally, we enjoy those sounds as they remind of long past rural childhood. The property is tucked away from roads and feels very private because it is surrounded by vegetation and is situated behind a small hill. The garden and patio is beautiful and shaded. The garden is quite large if you count what's beyond the patio. There is an orchard of sour cherries, plums, lemons, mulberries, apricots, and other fruit trees as well as flowers. There is a lovely outdoor area with table and chairs where we had our breakfasts and lunch. There was an outdoor kitchen and barbecue but we didn't use it for fear of causing a forest fire in the dry summer. It is very convenient to come with a car. You can park it down the small driveway that leads to the house. The house: The house, which is on two floors, has a nice traditional layout and look to it with its white walls and wooden features. The first floor is where you'll find a small kitchen and also a cute looking bedroom with two single beds. This floor is very nice in summer because it's naturally cool even without air conditioner. The upper floor is very roomy. There you'll find a bathroom, a large living area with couches and a TV (that we didn't use), and a large bedroom with a double bed. The bedrooms are equipped with air conditioners. The upper floor has a lovely balcony that you can access either from the living room or from the bedroom. From the balcony you can enjoy a view over the valley and mountains as well as a small peak at the sea. All the windows are equipped with mosquitto nets.

Not many things to not like but if something could be improved, we feel it would be this: 1. Add a sign or some indication of the entry gate to the house. I'd like to think I can find almost anything, yet I missed the entrance when we were looking for the place and we ended up at the neighbour's place. 2. Change the shower head because the one that was there does not provide good coverage when showering. 3. Maybe add a simple coffee machine in the kitchen.
