Mawingu lodge

The place is green and unlike anywhere else I’ve been in Zanzibar — full of nature and peaceful energy. The local team is very caring and attentive. The breakfast… wow! Very close to the ocean. Highly recommended.

Mawingu Lodge was a comfortable and quiet place to stay as a base for our local dives. The communication was excellent from my first enquiry, our transport from the airport was organised and assistance was offered for booking tours locally or elsewhere on Zanzibar. The staff were lovely, helpful and attentive, and any issues we had were dealt with promptly (no hot water initially but an electrician was called as soon as we notified them). Daily breakfast was delicious (those omelettes!), and it was just so peaceful, an utter delight. Bear in mind it is budget accommodation but if you're good with that, you can't go wrong with Mawingu.

I would like to have had local information in the room - whereabouts of local cafes, tours, etc but I guess that's what Google is for. There is a road running behind the lodge and the foot traffic into the night was sometimes noisy but it was not enough to be a real bother.

The room was big and clean. Rustic, relaxing place. It was like a big garden nearby the beach. Very friendly owner and staff.

There is absolutelly no services : no wifi, no drinks available, no tour organisation, there is only salty water in the pipes and the room is very noisy. We were a bit disapointed because it was the most expensive hotel we stayed.
