Dar Merzouga Meknes

Great location, easy to find in the medina. From the train station its 40 plus minutes walk. Restaurants around . On a quiet street. Hosts are nice and wifi works well. Breakfast is simple but good: eggs, msemen and assorted spreads, tea.

Our bathroom faced the main road which had very bright lamp light and thin curtains so can be hard to sleep. No hot water in our bathroom. Breakfast was a little late the first morning but was ok the next day.

We felt at home from the moment we arrived. The host had warned us about a wedding party in the patio the first night, but our baby girl loved the music. The beautifully carved ceilings were also something she loved to look at. The rooftop view at sunrise and sunset is fantastic. The dar is in a very authentic part of the medina, where you still see the locals living their life. And my wife very muxh enjoyed her local public hammam experience

Breakfast I was disappointed that they didn't have orange juice and no brown bread. The breakfast was very unhealthy.

I didnt like anything with the breakfast even the tea even though it was nice it was just one glass.

Salah, the assistant worker is a decent, sensitive, multi-lingual person who is always there working 24 hours a day. The location near northern gate (bab berdaine) is helpful for directions and quick access to transport plus location is very much part of local community. Roof-terrace view terrific. Internal decor of the Dar seems great but with hardly ever any lights on, it goes un-noticed.

Dormitory option means noise (very difficult to fall asleep) from ground-floor until everyone goes to bed around midnight. Water in the basins, showers and toilets (yes the toilet did NOT FLUSH) was completely off for my first 20 hours of 3 night stay. Mustapha the manager seemed to think water available part of the day is acceptable and did not like a French guest complaining about this. The breakfast of one tiny omelette, 6 pieces baguette with 3 types jam and some tea was nicely presented but hardly felt worth the wait (20mins each morning after arriving at breakfast table). This was served in almost darkness on ground floor...a bit weird to tell the truth.
