We’ve stayed in many different places in Mendocino over the years, but this home is far and away the best! Our parting gift today was sitting in the bedroom and watching the dolphins play outside our window. The house and its views are incredible. We will definitely return as it is our new house of choice.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This house is special. The setting, the views, the house itself are all exceptional. It’s about 3.5 miles south of Mendocino, with a long driveway off of Hwy 1. Exiting the driveway left onto Hwy 1 is a little dicey because the views both ways are a bit blind. We turned right and made a upturn using a driveway a little further south. No big deal. When we entered the house we realized it hadn’t been cleaned. We called the office and they sent someone out promptly.

This was the best vacation home we have ever stayed in! Everything about it was awesome: The views, the sounds, the living room (with fireplace), the bedroom (with fireplace), the hot tub, the spa tub (with great views) the closeness to great dining... everything! The serenity is unparalleled! The check-in and check-out procedures were easy to do. The communications with the property management were easy and timely. We recommend this home to any couple looking for an absolutely romantic stay on the ocean bluffs of the Mendocino Area!

The property is as described.

What isn't described is the overall vibe of the setting. It is greater than the sum of it's parts.
The place grows on you and you don't want to leave. It has become "hallowed grounds" for us.

The fireplace is very important to me, and this one rocks. All the great wood to burn you could want.

Perfect!

Perfect!

This was a fairly last minute booking for our 25th wedding anniversary. The place was beyond expectations! Best ocean views I’ve ever experienced in a rental! The gardens and grounds are beautiful and peaceful to walk around. The house was very clean and spacious. The nearby Wild Fish and Little River Inn restaurants were both fantastic and less than 5 minutes away. All in all it was great and we’ll be back!

When we arrived, there was cognac and candy and a sweet sign welcoming us which was a lovely gift. The only issue we had was that the cover of the hot tub was disintegrating so there were many tiny balls of styrofoam floating in it which wasn’t so appealing. I let the staff know and hopefully it will be replaced. Otherwise— we couldn’t have dreamed up a better experience!!

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We love Ocean Splendor and go back at least once a year and have been for more than a decade. The expansive glass windows, ocean views, hot tub, and fireplace all come together to relax and restore us. I'm not sure if we'll go back again, though. Each time I go, I notice that the place is getting more worn and this time the large stains on the carpet and upholstery were hard to ignore and greatly lessened our experience.

Everything about Ocean Splendor was terrific. It was so clean and bright and beautiful .... and the view was stunning. We did not want to leave and we are definitely wanting to return and stay longer next time! For the most part, we gathered up groceries in Mendocino and at Princess Seafood in Fort Bragg and stayed in .... just didn't want to leave! But we did have a fabulous dinner at Wild Fish and great lunch at Princess Seafood on the wharf.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We have stayed at Ocean Splendor many times. It is really a beautiful place, and you may never want to leave the house. When not cooking at home, try Wild Fish for dinner ( about a one minute drive). Other recent good dinners were at Luna Trattoria (no reservations, so consider going early) and Cafe Beaujolais, both in Mendocino Village. If possible, try the Sequoia Room at North Coast Brewery in Fort Bragg for Jazz on the weekends. Pacific Star Winery is about 45 minutes north - great for wine tasting and picnic. Take a walk on the trail to see Pygmy Forest (short and easy), and consider longer hike to Fern Canyon. Try Princess Seafood in Noyo Harbour, especially to pick up some Fresh King Salmon to cook back at Ocean Splendor.
