About this cottage rental

Our Duneland Rentals cottages are located right on the beach in the heart of the Indiana Dunes.
This lovely 2-bedroom beach rental is just steps form the lake. There is nothing between you and the lake except the lovely sandy beach. This is a ground‑floor unit in a two‑story beach house. You’ll have your own private deck, grill, and fire pit. There are no shared indoor spaces — you’ll only be sharing the beach (and the beach toys) with others.

Amenities include hardwood floors, high speed internet, cable t.v., central air, charcoal grill, coffee maker, microwave, ceiling fans, and 350’ of private beach. Our cottage is right on the beach.

We are located within walking distance to the Indiana Dunes State Park and the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore where there are miles of beautiful hiking, biking and cross country ski trails. Just a short ten minute drive away are the towns are Chesterton and Porter where there are a number of excellent restaurants, shops and cultural attractions. We are one hour from Chicago by car or the South Shore Railroad (the nearest stop to us is Dunes Park Station).

I’m sorry but we do not allow pets or smoking. Maximum occupancy is 4 people (adults and children). Additional day guests and visitors are not permitted.

Great for enjoying the beach! Cozy place in a quirky older dune community right on the beach. Susan was a good host. A few things to note that I didn’t fully catch in the description; the Property is bottom floor of a modified two story structure ( top floor is also rented out), laundry is a couple coin operated units a few steps away from the rental, and you’ll need to be ready for hauling luggage and groceries up and down the stairs from the parking area at top of dune. If you are good with that, you’ll have a blast.

This rental was one of the best locations we have ever stayed. The cottage was right on the beach and had all the comforts of home. The host has thought of just about everything and has provided it, including beach chairs, kayaks, sand toys, and much more. There were two things that were not mentioned in the description, but were mentioned in the comments: you park at the top of a steep hill, and have to walk down many wooden steps to reach the cottage. We would have packed differently if we had seen that in the description. The description did not mention that this cottage was located below another rental. Luckily, our upstairs neighbors were fairly quiet, and we mostly heard the floor creaking when they walked in and a little bit of muffled sound from the television. We normally do not find issue with the taste of water in most places that we have traveled, but we struggled with the taste of the well water. You may want to pick up some bottled water for drinking. The state park is literally just a walk down the beach. We hiked two days in the state park and it was fantastic. Unfortunately we did not make it to the national park. We definitely plan to come back in the future. Our host not only provided suggestions of hikes, but also some great restaurants. She was super responsive and helpful. We would definitely stay here again.

My son (who is 11) and I were in town for the birding festival and were so lucky to have been able to book this lovely cottage. It is literally on the beach, surrounded by sand and gorgeous views. It was so peaceful and we loved listening to the waves from the private deck! We will definitely be back next year and hopefully before!

I can't say enough about the owner and the property itself. You are right on the lake with a view and location that is unbeatable in my opinion. The property was absolutely spotless, I loved Susan (owner) sharing the history of the property and was accessible to any questions. Excellent location to any area attractions...but you won't want to leave the property because of the peaceful surroundings and view. Will be back without a doubt.

This place is paradise ! We had a wonderful stay and every morning and evening was a blast with amazing sunrises and sunsets. The outside is just surreal and so beautiful. Walking distance by the beach to the national Park was such a great opportunity to hike. The bungalow is super nice and cosy, views are exceptional!! Only downside for us : you have someone above your head... just pray they are considerate people, like the neighbors we had.

Easy to work with the owner via text. We met the owner outside and masked in order to know where to park and how to access the unit. Unit was very clean, cozy, with good view of the lake. As others have pointed out, there are about two flights of stairs in order to access the rental. To note - the room with twin beds has french doors to the living area, a window on the side (by the kitchen), and a door and two small windows to the other bedroom. The views, being right on the water, and walking distance to the dunes (state park) really made our stay worthwhile.

Impressed with the care around cleaning, including all beds with hospital corners, every towel perfectly in place, frig and stove pristine. Right on the water with great set up of chairs, bonfire, kayak if you want, and a half mile walk to enter the Dunes park for free. Comfortable and convenient get away!

It was as close to perfect for me as one can get! The cottage was lovely, the beach area was small this year, but private and peaceful. Everything the kids and adults needed for entertainment was there. The dunes and dune grasses and flowers were picturesque with little paths through the grasses. The only thing wrong was that we could not stay as long as I would have liked! Susan was a splendid hostess! And our next door neighbor who has spent summers there since he can remember when he was 3 was a true gem! What a spectacular vacation place! I can't believe we didn't know about this years ago!

We had a wonderful trip. The property was nice and cozy, and we had our own little beach area to ourselves. The stairs were very challenging for us with two kids under the age of two. We would stay here again when they are older and able to help transport luggage to and from the car to the cottage.

We were unaware that this rental was a duplex. Not a big fan of upstairs neighbors. Caution tape across the beautiful view was a bit tacky. Rental was nice, clean. There are a lot of stairs down to the house and back up to parking lot. Would be difficult for some people with mobility issues to get to. The view is amazing and the private beach is great but u do have to share with the upstairs neighbors. Coin laundry available which is a plus. Overall we had a wonderful stay. Property should be described in more detail so people know that it is a duplex and that it may be physically difficult for some to climb the stairs. Kitchen was missing can opener and pizza cutter but did have everything else we needed.

We had a lovely girls trip to the Dunes. This property was very clean and well stocked with most anything you might need. The bedroom arrangement is odd. You can walk through the triple-twin bedroom to get to the second bedroom. There are doors for privacy. It worked for us. Even though the description of the place speaks about the stairs from the main road to the cottage; be forewarned that the road from parking and the stairs are quite steep. Fortunately, my friends and I are in fair shape for middle aged women and managed; however, carrying luggage and coolers was a challenge. The stairs are poorly lit at night. The other safety concern is the sea wall. There is yellow and black caution tape stretched across it but I would be very cautious of young children on the property. The owner does require every quest to sign a release of liability from injury before renting the property. Overall, the beach location is near perfect as the actual beach area in front of the property can be affected by the lake tide. On the first few days, the lake tide was splashing against and over the sea wall so accessing the beach from this property was not possible unless you wanted to wade in knee deep cold water (we were traveling in early October). A short drive can get you to Porter beach. By the third day the water had receded enough to access the beach. I suppose that is a risk you take renting on any waterfront property. All in all, we had a wonderful time. The owner was accommodating and quick to reply. We look forward to returning again as long as our knees hold up.

The location was perfect for enjoying both the Beach/Lake and easy access into Indiana Dunes State Park and hiking trails. The cottage is small and cozy but worked perfect for our family of 5. We were pleasantly surprised that they had equipment ( kayaks, SUP, life jackets, etc) that we could use on the Lake.

Susan was very welcoming, even re-printing a voucher we had accidentally left at home for the Shedd Aquarium. The cottage was clean, and well-situated, almost directly on the beach! About 5 minutes from Dunes Park Station of the South Shore Line, super easy to get into the city for a day adventure. We’re coming back!
