Our stay at lake front yala safari was amazing. The property is right in the beautiful jungle and feels very peaceful. They offer safaris to Yala for a great price. The rooms were clean and tidy, and they offered dinner which was beautiful home cooked Sri Lankan food, really tasty! The family made the stay very special, they are kind and helpful and will do everything to ensure you are comfortable. We even went to a local festival with their daughter who showed us around and gave us lots of insight into the culture. If you are lucky you can see wild elephants on the door as they come through the jungle. A great place to stay if you want to see Yala and would highly recommend.

The room was very clean and comfortable. The air conditioning worked well, and toiletries were provided upon request. Breakfast was good, and the lady of the house was very friendly—she even offered us fresh guavas, which was a nice touch.

However, our overall experience was somewhat mixed. We had booked a safari with another company, and it seemed this was not very well received by the hosts. Our initial interactions felt a bit awkward, although things improved somewhat afterwards. At the end of our stay, the men of the house offered to drive us to Mirissa for 18,000 LKR. During the trip, he asked us to pay an additional 1,000 LKR for highway tolls and kept the change without returning it to us. Unfortunately, we were also fined for not wearing seat belts, although we had not been informed that this was required -as most of the cars dont even have a seat belts in Sri Lanka.. In total, we paid 19,000 LKR despite originally agreeing on 18,000 LKR. While these issues were relatively minor, the situation was a bit unfortunate and left us with a slightly disappointing final impression of what was otherwise a pleasant stay.
