"Very much a " locals " neighborhood, which is what I wanted, as I am considering a move to Placencia, and did not want to be in a cookie cutter condo."

About this house rental

tIf you're looking for accommodations right in the village where you can walk to EVERYTHING, Casa Azul is your spot. The beach, bars, groceries, liquor... there is absolutely no need for a car or taxi for the duration of your stay.

Casa Azul is located at the end of a short street in a typical Belizean residential neighborhood. It offers comfortable accommodation with a lovely view of the canal that the boats pass to go out to sea. A basic but functional full kitchen and a peaceful covered patio provides a great place to sip your morning coffee and plan your day. You will probably not use the kitchen much because it's so easy to eat local for breakfast and lunch. $4 will get you a fresh juice and a breakfast burrito within a 2 minute walk and there are several $6 US typical Belizean local lunch spots very close.
The master bedroom is air conditioned but with the doors open it keeps the entire home comfortably cool.

The serene and typically quiet Placencia beach is literally 400 meters away.

Placencia village proper is a sleepy little village with an end of the road feel to it. Probably because it is at the end of the road. Ex pat's, locals and tourists mingle with a funky harmony. You'll feel safe everywhere in the village. Our family has been going to Placencia for 20 years and our kids roam with the other neighborhood kids with a comfy feeling of safety. We're in the heart of the village with local families and a few ex pats in the neighborhood.

What you're getting when you stay at Casa Azul is a modest but clean accommodations in a super central area located in a beautiful setting on the lagoon. Everything (groceries, pharmacy, hardware and dozens of restaurants) is within a 5 minute walk. This is NOT a fancy vacation rental. You will be staying in a typical Belizean neighborhood. This means your neighbors will occasionally play their Bob Marley through the day.

The outside patio is a great space to chill, watch the birds and iguanas, manatee swim by in the lagoon.

Many people use our home as a base for exploring Belize, others just want an economical place to chill out and experience Belize in a manner you can't when staying in a big resort or vacation home removed from the village.

If you're looking for a Cancun-esque type of experience, Placencia (and our rental) is not for you. Come here to chill, relax, do a few day trips, snorkel, beach it, etc.

Food is cheap if you eat Belizean and you could probably eat out 3 great meals a day for $25 US per day.

The host was very easy to get along with and even tho there were a couple of issues during the stay they were dealt with as quick as possible. Good communication as well which we appreciated. Thanks for a nice stay.

We stayed at Joseph's home for the month of February 2019. The house was just the right size for three of us. Loved sitting on the patio, watching the birds, butterflies and all the boats go by. It was so peaceful here. We would love to go back to placencia in the winter. We would stay much longer the next time. The neighbors are very friendly. The house was so close to everything. We would definitely stay here again. Thank you for the wonderful holiday. Hope to stay here again.

Could not have asked for the more perfect get-a-way! A place to hide away from the rest of the world and just enjoy life with the family! Property was perfect - clean and well maintained - just as if the owners lived there themselves. I would highly recommend this property. We enjoyed our tour guide Chino who took us to Monkey River; King Lewey Island, our son enjoyed deep sea spear fishing with Chino; Catamaran trip with Hank (owner of boat) we had lunch on Lark Caye was very tasty and plenty to eat. Don' miss the Mayan King Falls or a day trip to Xunantunich (leave early it's a good drive) be sure to stop and eat at Bertha Tomales on way to the ruins as well as stop at the Country Barn for Ice Cream. Speaking of Ice Cream the Village has an awesome ice cream store with wide variety of flavours. Shopping for Belize hand made items is a must in the Village - I picked up a beautiful necklace made from sea glass at Kaj Expressions. Plenty of restaurants to eat at and very reasonably priced. Barefoot, Tipsy Tuna, Rick's Yolis, be sure to stop at Brewed Awakenings for a coffee smoothy. Or outside the village for a bit 'fancier' of a meal go to Maya Beach Resort. There's a whole world out there to see and I'm happy Placencia Village in Belize was one of our destinations.

We loved our stay at Casa Azul. There was a little delay in checking in due to our arrival being delayed but Carol was very helpful and accommodating. Everything was pretty much as the listing described. The kitchen utensils and pots and pans were a little aged but were adequate for the amount of cooking we were doing. It's so close to a plethora of little local eateries that we rarely cooked breakfast or lunch anyway. We loved sitting on the sandy seawall watching the boats roll past the house. We spend most of our time at the house either on the patio or relaxing on the sand. The suite was basic but it was clean and suited our needs and was great value for the price. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Placencia. The best part of the rental

My wife and I travelled with her cousin. Our average age is 73 Yrs. My wife and I have travelled to Europe, the Orient, Mexico, Cuba and most of the USA and Canada. This was our first trip to Central America. We have stayed in Budget Hotels to Marriott's resorts. One review on this place gave us concern but the others seemed okay! We arrive at dusk and we were impressed with the residence. The next day we met our fellow Renter (Upstairs unit) It turned out It was "Scott" and his wife, one of the people who had reviewed earlier. I believe this is their fifth time in Placencia and their third time here. They were staying for two months! If we had any concerns about our choice they were erased at that point! They became our "Placentia Guides" and we enjoyed their company and our new friendship! We us enjoyed sitting in the covered, shaded deck watching the boats slowly pass by. (There is a no Wake Zone in the Lagoon.) We saw a couple of iguanas in the mangroves. The flowers set off the view of the mountains, in the distance, as we looked down the Lagoon. The sunset from the deck, over the Lagoon, was perfect in January and Feb. We love the sights and sound of water and this place offered an abundance of that! Joe checked in by email often to make sure we were doing "Okay" and making suggestions as to places we could "check out"! We had a couple of little problems, slow (drain )and they were looked after within a few minutes of "Thursday"( Maintenance Guy) finding out! Microwave died and was quickly replaced! Within 24 Hours we felt like we were home! We did rent a Golf Cart (With Scott and his wife) for 24 Hours. To tour the area. We were able to keep it Securely in the fenced area. ("The Compound") There would be room for a couple of vehicles, if one had a rental car. Speaking of Renting a car, for Scott and ourselves it was not necessary as the place is centrally located to Bars etc We have stayed in places that cost more for a week than this place cost for 39 days and, over all, for us, with the water, the weather (High 70's during the day, low 70's at night) we were very pleased! If you need a Marriotts Resort, or better, this place may not for you! If you enjoy, meeting local people, natural beauty of the Lagoon and beach, a home away from home in a local community, at a very reasonable price, this place maybe for you! We are planning a return trip! (We have checked the prices and found nothing compared for value, for us.

I'll start by saying I've never had to write a review like this for anywhere we have stayed, not even close. We (me, my husband and 12 year old) chose to stay here because of the reasonable pricing and the recent good reviews. This place is a classic example of why there should be truth in advertising; it's imperative that people know what they're in for, especially if there's a no refund policy in place. When we arrived it was clear that the house had not been cleaned in some time with layers of thick dirt and dust, and was left in a disarray by the previous tenants. We found used sundries, razors, food items, etc. strewn about the apartment, and our bed was unmade. When we tried to make it the bed collapsed and had to be repaired by a handyman. The toilet was murky and black with some kind of growth, and the entire home smelled of strong, stale urine. We had to clean the home ourselves, and we're quite shocked to find the commode was actually white. The stale and horrible urine smell never quite went away during our almost one month stay, despite multiple disinfections. The house was unbearably hot during the day, with 2 rickety fans provided. It was impossible to get any relief, and we were basically immobilized between 11am and 5pm if we were at the apartment. The bed mattresses were soft and worn, the linen was a joke, raggedy, threadbare and very old. We had to buy our own pots and pans to have decent cookware. Furniture was pretty filthy. The duplex is in an alley, and there are very large mounds of piled high garbage outside. It looked like they've been there for years and are quite disgusting. People actually walk down the alley to dump trash and litter. The immediate neighbors have no problem blasting their music at top volume all hours of the day, which made it impossible to read, watch tv, talk, or even think. We have been to many beach spots, but this is the first time we were practically eaten alive by bugs; they were so horribly itchy, and we couldn't discern if it was an outside problem or an inside one. This was the worst month we've ever experienced; we even left a few days early. I would imagine it was equivalent to living in a human version of a toilet. The owner claims that it's a humble place in town among the natives, but at some point he has to be accountable and responsible for the terrible and disheartening con he is letting trusting and unknowing travelers into. At least I am able to correct this in some measure.

We stayed at the blue lagoon house for 3 months this winter and truly enjoyed our stay there. Nice being so close to the villiage and the house was comfortable, would definitely like to stay there again.
