We had everything we needed in this gorgeous place! The cottage is not only comfortable and incredibly clean, but perfectly located, with fantastic sea views - the perfect vantage point to see the seals basking in the sunshine on Seal Island. A lazy stroll to the sea, a little walk to the beach and a lovely restaurant in one direction and into Buckie town in another, with a great bus route there and back too, and a short drive to see the dolphins at Spey Bay or the wonderful beach at Cullen, yet only an hour and a half from Loch Ness, it really is a great place to be. Boatman’s Cottage is absolutely stunning. Tastefully decorated, with nods everywhere to its history, it is classy rather than fussy or cluttered. So lovely to chat with Kevin before we arrived and hear his recommendations in terms of places to visit, and very refreshing to be trusted to enjoy our stay without the list of ‘dos and don’ts’ you so often find when staying in a rented cottage. And this is the first time we have found our way to a holiday home without any wrong turns, thanks to the owners’ great directions! Thank you both - it was a privilege to spend a week in this beautiful home and we will definitely be booking again.

We had a really lovely holiday at Boatman’s Cottage.
We had a really lovely holiday at Boatman’s Cottage.
We had a really lovely holiday at Boatman’s Cottage. It was spectacularly clean and we received a lovely welcome pack for us and our border collie! Excellent communication with the owner who was friendly and helpful. The location was perfect for our needs and provided a wonderful base to explore the area. It was a very short walk to the beach and superb walking in the area. We walked from the cottage along the old railway line to Cullen and back along the coastal path which was spectacular. Cullen is a really lovely town with some great little antique shops, a gorgeous beach and harbour views while eating fish and chips. Buckie is a short walk and has everything you might need. Excellent fish mongers and butchers but also Tesco and Lidl for the basics. Findhorn is really worth a visit and Spey Bay is lovely and has some stunning walks. We ended our days enjoying a drink on the terrace overlooking the bay or by the log burner with a cheeky Speyside whisky. I would highly recommend this place, you won’t be sorry. Bring your waterproofs and enjoy! Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo

This cottage gives a feeling of staying in a fishing village.

This cottage gives a feeling of staying in a fishing village. It is on a quiet lane but within a short walk of the coast. We thought it spacious for four - 2 bathrooms, albeit one downstairs, 2 large bedrooms and 2 separate sitting areas. It is tastefully decorated with paintings and artefacts related to the sea. Everything was provided even poop bags and dog treats and a chilling bottle of fizz for our arrival. There is an excellent day time cafe within walking distance but eating out in the evening would involve a reasonable walk or a car. Lots to do in the area - we, and our two dogs, loved staying here. This is a lovely cottage, smaller than the photos might lead you to suppose but still plenty room for 2 and even for 4 people with a large dog. It is nicely equipped and the furniture is comfy and of a high quality. The cottage has a lovely atmosphere due to the attention to detail in the design and fit out and the theme of boats and sea with pictures on the walls. There are drink coasters everywhere so we took the hint and always used them for our cups of tea and glasses of wine. The garden is very small and not suitable for a dog but it is a minute walk to the grassy area by the shore. The old railway line above the house makes a great walk to the next village, returning by the coastal path. We saw the seal colony too. We would recommend the 'Eat Mair Fish' shop at Buckie - it is even close enough to walk to if you want. This is a great base for exploring Cullen, Elgin, Fochabers, Lossiemouth, Forres, Spey Bay and other places. Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo
