This beautifully renovated former fisherman’s cottage, dating back to the 1820s, lies in the heart of the historical coastal village of Staithes, tucked away on the Yorkshire Coast on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, making it the perfect coast and country retreat.

Although relatively small, this delightful property stretches over three floors and has been developed to an exceptional standard with everything you could need in a holiday cottage, from a Smart TV to Wi-Fi throughout. The bedrooms, each with their own en-suite facilities, are on the top and bottom floors, whilst an open plan living area and well-equipped kitchen lie in the middle.

The local shops, pubs and restaurants are just a stone’s throw away, as is the beautiful beach and

cove that would once have been the haunt of pirates and smugglers. The explorer Captain James Cook has strong ties to the village and served his apprenticeship here before heading off to find new, exotic places across the globe including Australia and New Zealand.

The scene of many TV programmes including the children’s hit series ‘Old Jack’s Boat’, Staithes is ideally located for exploring further along the Cleveland Way National Trail and the Yorkshire Heritage Coast. Its hidden gems such as Runswick Bay, Sandsend and Robin Hood’s Bay make it an artist’s paradise. Look closely at Runswick and you will see the outline of the dragon’s head at the furthest point.

The bustling fishing town of Whitby is just a short drive away and is home to many festivals and events throughout the year, including a regatta and the famous Goth Weekend to name just two. From here you can take an open top bus tour of the town, or sail out to sea on one of the many excursion boats from the harbour. The famous Whitby Abbey was the inspiration behind Bram Stoker’s novel ‘Dracula’. Climb the 199 steps to the abbey and church to experience a fantastic view of the town.

Further along the coast is the traditional Victorian seaside resort of Scarborough, or head inland to take in the natural beauty of the North York Moors National Park. You can even take a steam train ride right into the centre of the national park, or pay a visit to Goathland, which was made famous by the TV show ‘Heartbeat’.

The North York Moors National Park is also home to miles and miles of tracks and trails for lovers of the great outdoors. Beach 200 yards. Shop 75 yards, pub and restaurant 50 yards.

Free WiFi

Perfect for 2 people. I didn't find the cottage ideal for a dog as there is no outside space to let a pooch out for a pee...

We stayed at the above property from Saturday 23rd March 2019 to Saturday 30th March 2019 and had a fantastic holiday. We have stayed twice now at this cottage and we will certainly be staying again in the future. We brought our youngest son and his partner and they then booked and invited our sons partners parents because they said how fantastic and lovely it was. The last visit we invited our friends who in turn told their friends how wonderful it was and they booked a week this year in the spring. Emma who owns the property is brilliant. Nothing is too much trouble for her and any problems you have she deals with them promptly. We go away in this country to different locations every month and wish all property owners were a helpful as Emma. Lynda & Geoff Macclesfield, Cheshire

We had a very enjoyable stay at this great cottage. It was spotlessly clean, with comfortable furniture and bed. There was everything one could have required even down to umbrellas for those rainy days. We would highly recommend and would definitely return again.

Everything one expects for a cottage in Staithes.
Everything one expects for a cottage in Staithes.
Everything one expects for a cottage in Staithes. The two pubs in the village and the one at the top of the Bank serve very good food and drink. We ate plenty of fresh seafood. The Co-op on the main road has all the essentials. Shopping is limited within the village. Being in our mid-70's we walked up the Bank in about 10 minutes maybe a distance of 150 yards - a slow climb but not a difficult one - to the car park at the top rather than keep bringing the car into the village. Plenty of parking spaces in the car park whilst we were there and if you venture out and about the parking charges are less that £6 per day. This is an excellent location for travelling the North Yorkshire Moors - North, South and West. Whitby is not far away - around 11 miles. Good access to Robin Hood's Bay and Runswick Bay - certainly worth a visit. Also the North Moors Centre proved interesting. Whilst we did not bring one, everywhere is `dog friendly` - dogs of every variety! We certainly thoroughly enjoyed our holiday at `One Beckside Cottage` and in North Yorkshire. We have got to mention the `Fox & Hounds` pub just outside Staithes - their food is excellent.

Nice cottage.
Nice cottage.
Nice cottage. Well modernised to make use of the small amount of space. Main drawback is parking is not nearby but up a steep hill and costs.
