Set on the banks of the River Severn, and boasting a good selection of pubs and restaurants as well as excellent shopping, this historic market town is famous for its arts and music with museums, art galleries and theatre for visitors to enjoy. Close by, the grounds of Gregynog Hall offer year round interest including extensive woodland with waymarked walks and fine trees, rhododendrons and spring bulbs. Gardening enthusiasts and history lovers too will also delight in a visit to Powis Castle, 16 miles, a medieval fortress soaring dramatically above its world famous gardens. Now in the care of the National Trust, the castle houses a superb collection of paintings, sculpture, furniture, tapestries and treasures from India.
