About this house rental

In the heart of a lavander and truffle oak plantation, where an ancient oak tree shelter the rocky earth you'll find 'Villa Mas Augusta'.
As beautiful, as it is comfortable, this lovely house is built of the provençal field stone found on the property, and is in perfect harmony with the peaceful, natural surroundings.

The setting and architecture, provide picturesque views of the Grand Luberon mountains to the south, and the fantastic provençal sunsets to the west.
In the abundant shade of the surrounding oaks, you can relax and enjoy a glass of wine under the patio with your friends or perhaps wait your turn at a game of 'pétanque' (bowles provided...) on the terrace.
Villa Mas Augusta is charmingly decorated with many treasures Mathilde has discovered in the local antique markets.
The 4 bedrooms are softened by a lovely combination of stripes and Toile de Jouy fabrics, which harmonize with the tasteful furnishings to create a chic and inviting ambiance.
On the practical side, Villa Mas Augusta is equipped throughout with everything one would need to create the perfect holiday for 4 to 8 people.
A nice, and private swimming pool protected by a fence is just 30 yards away with a superbe view.
The pool is heated for 28 Celsius degrees or 82 Fahrenheit

Warm and Inviting
Warm and Inviting
I stayed at the Mas Augusta with my family for one week in April 2017. What can I say? The house is so beautifully appointed, lovely and inviting , you wouldn't want to leave it for one minute if not for the beautiful surrounding Luberon countryside, the perched villages, vineyards and and and…. The immediate surroundings of the house are equally beautiful!! You get the feeling you landed in times long gone, when land was plenty and the next neighbor far away and out of sight. The huge property is nothing less than breathtaking!! 150 acre (60 ha) only to share with the lovely Roussel family and the guests of 2 more houses. Hours of walking with breathtaking views directly from your front door… but the location is also ideal for day trips to each and every point you want to visit in beautiful Provence. Mas Augusta is in a very (!) secluded position but because of its location right in the middle of the Luberon mountains you easily reach the northern and the southern part, villages like Gordes Roussillion, Lourmarin, Menerbes, Lacoste ….. all a stonethrow away. I could go on and on in my praise of beautiful Augusta but still the best thing about our stay I didn't mention yet. The proprietors Mathilde and Bernard. You’ll hardly ever meet people more inviting, warm and lovely than these two! My father got ill while we were staying at the Augusta and we had to even take him to the hospital for a short period of time. Mathilde went to visit him there and Bernard went out of his way to provide things we needed from the pharmacy. They made endless phone calls to various doctors, too. The warmth and friendliness of Mathilde and Bernard helped us so much when we were worried about my father’s health. We hope to back soon!!

A voir absolument !

Lovely and peaceful stay in Augusta!
Lovely and peaceful stay in Augusta!
We passed two weeks with all my family (my wife, 1 kid 2 years old and my 2 brothers, her friend and my mom) and we were very happy to spend our holidays in Augusta! It's a lovely house very nice decorated and smartly built. Charm, silence, breathtaking view, refinement, space, tranquility...all this words are coming to me unremittingly. All the pictures we see on this site are perfectly faithful. Bernard is a very nice host, helpful and discreet, he provided nice addresses where we savored nice meals in these typical and famous french area, named Luberon. We went to Lourmarin, Roussillon, Bonnieux, all these lovely villages are situated only 20 minutes far from Augusta. Merci Cher Bernard pour votre accueil et votre bon goût!

We had the most wonderful time at Mas Augusta which exceeded all of our expectations. The house was beautifully decorated in a modern provincial style. It was both comfortable and luxurious. It was also well stocked with everything we needed as well as a washing machine. We enjoyed sitting by the tranquil pool or on the lawn in the late afternoon and just soaked up the ambiance that is unique to the Luberon. It was just fabulous having Bernard on site as we were able to receive local advice about the best towns and restaurants to visit in the area. It was a delight to visit Bonneux as well as other hilltop towns on market days to pick up our supplies... we lived the provincial life for a week and can’t wait to go back! We were there in late September and had superb weather each day of around 25C. We didn’t get to meet Mathilde as she was in away at the time of our visit. We loved what she has done to the house and hope to meet her on our return visit! Many thanks, Bernard we had a wonderfully memorable holiday!

A truly Provencal Experience!
A truly Provencal Experience!
My husband and I were lucky to stumble upon this listing on VRBO while honeymooning in the South of France. We were ready to find a beautiful and relaxing place to rest after travelling around the South cities for a week, and we did just that with Mas Augusta! We were thankful that after only a few hours notice this beautiful home would be available to us! We arrived on June 19th 2011 and stayed for 4 nights. Upon arrival the house exceeded our expectations! What a beautiful charming home. The decor was stunning, exactly what you envision when you think "French Country". The home was fully outfitted and included everything we would need for our stay. We loved travelling to Apt each day to the boulangerie to pick up our pain & baguette, wine & cheese! We were even more excited to return back to Mas Augusta each day to lay out by the beautiful pool. One of our favorite things during our stay was turning on the radio to a local french station while preparing dinner and spending our evenings out on the terrace. What a remarkable property, views and home! We were only dissapointed to not be able to share this amazing home and experience with our family and friends. We do hope to return sometime in the future on our next trip to France!

C'est Manifique !

We stayed in this property with our two small children (3 & 1) at the end of May 2011 for 2 weeks. We had a wonderful time. Bernard and Mathilde are superb hosts. They are there on hand if you need them (nothing is too much trouble) but also discrete if you need privacy. The property itself is of a very high standard and decorated in provencal style. One bedroom has its own private wing, which is perfect for guests (we had my mother-in-law for a few days). The village of Buoux (pronounced "Bukes") is tiny and contains one or two traditional restaurants. This is the only downfall, because you have to drive to Apt or Bonnieux to find the nearest Boulangerie! We ate a lot of pain in France so this was a little annoying. We recommend the Boulangerie in Bonnieux by the lower roundabout. However, Boulangerie aside, this a great property that wont disappoint, especially if you love the plein air. My favourite thing to do was going for an evening stroll down the road to admire the Grand luberon and fort Buoux. We also had a week or rain, and temperatures of 10c some days. Having travelled to provence 4 times now, I'd recommend late June or early September. Thank you again Bernard. Mike

We had a great time in Mas Augusta! the house and the garden are peacefull and quiet. The lanscape over the mountain gave us serenity. We also had fun because the swimmingpool is just gorgeous, we rent bicycles and went to the horseclub in Buoux. Lots of activities to do around. Thank you to Mathilde and Bernard for their welcoming and for the provencal decoration of the house ! C.D

Fantastic week -great house
Fantastic week -great house
We stayed a week in Mas Augusta and we have booked to go back again next year!! The view is incredible and the house was beyond our expectation. Fully equipped, practical and lovely decorated; I must say we grabbed few decoration tips there ? This was also great home base for all the exploring we did. We visited Avignon and its Pope Castle, we spent a beautiful day at Ile-sur-La-Sorgue known for its antics market, and we also enjoyed of course the various local food markets. The owners (Bernard and Mathilde) were very welcoming and helpful. We thank them for their good restaurant advise! This is truly a place worth to go to.
