Casa Serena has all of the colonial charm you expect in a fully-renovated home in the heart of Merida's Centro. It is located only steps away from Merida's English Library, a local hub for expat gathering and activities.
This colonial home is ideally situated for exploring the nearby art galleries, parks, historic churches, and museums but also close to the local shops, cafés, and culinary restaurants for which Merida has become famous.
Welcoming you as you enter the foyer of the home are high wood-beamed ceilings, restored antique doors, pasta tiled floors and large open spaces. You will find this comfortable home tastefully decorated with unique Mexican artwork collected by the owner adorning the walls and tables throughout. Just off the foyer, you will find the first of three well appointed bedrooms with ensuite baths. The home sleeps 6 persons. Next is a comfortable living room for unwinding by reading, listening to music, or watching the cable television. This leads to both the inside dining room and the kitchen. The column-lined kitchen is the center of the home and effortlessly meshes with the exterior courtyard, pool, and exterior dining room which surround it. The modern kitchen is fully-equipped to fulfill all of your needs during your stay and features a breakfast bar for gathering or eating. There is even a grill by the pool for further cooking needs.
The exterior spaces of this home, which feature tropical flowering and fruit-bearing plants, are where most guests end up relaxing when not exploring the historic city or nearby Mayan pyramids, museums and cenotes. In addition to the 6 ft. by 15 ft. filtered pool in the center courtyard, there are two additional rooftop terraces to enjoy. Perched above the kitchen is a just completed, bedroom suite which overlooks the pool below and has its own bathroom. Past the pool, secluded at the rear of the property, is the separate master suite and bath. This bedroom is the perfect place to catch up on any well-deserved sleep.

The house was nice and we liked the little pool in the middle of it and the location was nice. It was an 15 minute walk to the nearest convenience store, which was further than we would have liked. Our main issue was the ant infestation that took more than 24 hours to address. There were hundreds, maybe thousands of ants infested near the pool and they were getting into the back bedroom where my 15 year old daughter was sleeping and into the bed itself. We tried to get the problem addressed, even sending the owner a picture of an ant in her bed, but she ended up having to sleep on the sofa in the main house for a night before someone showed up the next evening with a can of Raid and some vinegar and water which helped get rid of most of the ants. These were not little ants but giant ants, hundreds and hundreds of them. We also all woke up every morning with new bug bites. We are back home now and they are still visible on our legs but hopefully will fade soon. Other than the bug issues, we had a nice stay. The big fluffy seed pods that blew in throughout the week were also a bit of a pain to keep having to clean out of the pool every day.

Amazing home, immaculate for the age of the property and the location. Everything was very clean, well represented, and accessible. The pool was perfect for our family to take a dip every afternoon after warming up walking around the neighbourhood. The air conditioning works very well and is operated room by room - we left it off all day and turned it on just before bedtime and we all slept very comfortably. The location is very accessible whether you are staying in Centro or driving further afield. Parking is on the street; we came back late on a Friday night and had to park a block away but that was the worst of it - very easy compared to other city-centres. The host was very easy to deal with and responded promptly with no issue. We stayed for 8 days and the pool was cleaned twice. We enjoyed the large footprint of the home with different patios and lounging areas. Our 5 year old was extremely happy to be staying in a "castle" and took great pleasure exploring all the nooks and crannies of this charming, authentic, and luxurious colonial home.

Location is excellent for walking to restaurants and area in the center of Mérida. If you need rides to areas, Uber is very accessible and reasonable cost.
