Summary:
Located close to Bryce Canyon National Park, Zion National Park, Lake Powell, the Grand Canyon, Coral Pink Sand Dunes and other attractions only found in Southern Utah's Color Country, HappyOurs Ranch is a 50 acre ranch that has been a family get-away and retreat for over 50 years.
Come explore the colorful maples, towering pines, sturdy oaks, "Smiling Pool" pond, and "Laughing Brook" stream. This will be your private family/group headquarters as you explore the marvels of Southern Utah.
You can find us on Lydia's Canyon Road, just off historic Highway 89 and north of the town of Glendale, UT. Our cozy cowboy Bunkhouse offers the finest experience of western living with modern conveniences. This cabin features a full kitchen, laundry area, open-living area, two bathrooms with walk-in showers, a custom-built bunkroom with two queen and full bunks, and upstairs loft with office and private queen bedroom. We also have high-speed wifi internet for your business and entertainment needs.
Enjoy the star-filled night sky from the porch, hike to an ancient bat cave, fish in private ponds, schedule a scenic country wagon ride and cowboy dutch-oven dinner (schedule directly through us), or enjoy full use of the BBQ on the back patio. This is the ideal location to enjoy all the treasures that await you in Southern Utah.

The Space:
A cozy cabin located on a 50-acre ranch surround by horses and a pond...this is something right out of a western tale! :)

The cabin is equipped with a fully stocked kitchen, featuring a fridge, stove/ oven and microwave. Enjoy a cup of coffee out on the porch seating area. Need a movie night for the kids? We have you covered with a smart tv and DVD player! Sit out under the open sky and stargaze until the sun comes up.
The bunk room has 2 bunk beds, with 2 Queen beds on one bunk and 2 full beds on the other. Upstairs is equipped with an office area and a Queen bed.
The house has 2 full bathrooms with walk in showers and large vanities perfect for everyones needs!

Page, AZ airport is 1.5 hours away; St. George, UT airport is 1 hour and 40 minutes away; Las Vegas airport is 3.5 hours away. Get around in town mostly via car.

A great secluded cabin that we thoroughly enjoyed. Do you want to get away from everything? This is the place for you. Dave and Karen care about this place, been in their family for years and it shows. It is about the same distance to both Bryce and Zion if you want a place for that and not far from Kanab to get some city like activities in. We were worried about it not having AC and that was certainly not a problem in late June, in fact sometimes my kids were to cold. Thoroughly enjoyed the bunkhouse and would without a doubt stay there again!

We’re an older couple in our seventies. This cabin is beautifully designed and constructed, and charming. The setting is very quiet and private. It’s pretty small. I would say it suits 2 adults comfortably, with perhaps one or two small children. The beds were very comfortable, however my husband is tall and didn’t enjoy having to duck and squeeze to get into the lower bunk. The two bathrooms are very spacious and accommodating, the showers roomy. I would not recommend the loft for sleeping for anyone with mobility issues—the stairs are steep and narrow. There is no air conditioning. We like to be active in the mornings, then rest in the afternoons. We were very fortunate that storms came in to cool the temperatures every afternoon. If this hadn’t happened, we would have had difficulty resting in the heat and possibly at night, though portable fans are provided. The kitchen is minimally supplied for food preparation. I usually bring my own cooking tools and supplies when we stay at a rental, but was not able to on this trip because we were flying. I would advise that if you plan to prepare your meals at the cabin, ask the owner ahead of time if the supplies you’ll need are available. The owners are dear people. They are gracious and kind, and responded quickly to our every need. They were kind enough also to leave their barn light off at night, as I wanted to experience the dark skies of Utah. Altogether a lovely and hospitable place.

The property was what we were hoping for. Great location for visiting Bryce, Zion and the North rim of the Grand Canyon. Very quiet and the skies at night were amazing. If you have never seen the Milky Way, you are in for a treat! Not many places to eat out at, which wasn’t a big problem for us as we usually prepare our own meals. Dave and Karen are wonderful people and we enjoyed talking with them both. We were kind of sad when it was time to leave, which usually doesn’t happen!

Cabin was perfect for a family trip to the national parks. Right in the middle of Zion and Bryce. One hour drive to each and it goes quick because the scenery is beautiful. We also did the north Rim of the Grand Canyon which is more of a hike but doable. We were worried about no A/C at the cabin because there was a heatwave during our stay (110 at Zion) but the cabin is shaded a lot of the day. Just close it up during the day and open the windows in the evening and it gets cold. Our kids actually complained about being too cold in the morning. The cabin was clean and the beds were comfortable. You are on the horse ranch but the cabin is secluded and we never saw anyone unless we went down to look at the horses. Kids loved the bunk beds, having two full bathrooms was great, cabin was well appointed. Great stay, highly recommend!

The cabin is so nice and comfortable. It has everything you need and more! Very quiet and private. Nice breeze and beautiful Aspen trees. We were there to spread my Dad’s remains in the area so the trip was emotional to begin with, and then my horse passed away back at home very unexpectedly. So, not the trip we wanted but I would definitely go back to the Bunkhouse. The family was so kind. I wish we could have spent more time with them.

The little house itself was great. By the pictures I thought there was a field and pond adjacent to the property, but it was further down the road and driveway. We came late at night so we’re confused about which house and driveway it was. I had difficulty accessing my Vrbo info, so couldn’t review check in procedure. Cute house though and pleasant surroundings, but not much to do in immediate area for kids.

This was such a beautiful place to stay. It was nestled in a canyon filled with lots of trees. One of the trees had a nest right outside the kitchen window with a family of birds in it. What a neat treat! The place looks like it was just built and the hosts are very kind and friendly. This is a great place to stay to see Zion and Bryce Canyon.

We recently had the pleasure of staying at the cabin nestled between Bryce Canyon and Zion that exceeded all our expectations. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed and shown around by Dave. We were absolutely captivated by the coziness of this place as well as the tranquility of the surrounding landscape. The cabin itself was a haven of comfort and charm. This place is so cool and peaceful! The location couldn't have been more perfect, offering easy access to both national parks while providing a serene and peaceful retreat. We were particularly thrilled with the delicious food Sarah served. It was truly a treat for our taste buds. Additionally, we thoroughly enjoyed Dave's company. We had such a wonderful stay at The Bunkhouse. It is perfectly situated between Zion and Bryce and offers all the comforts of home. Dave and Karren were the perfect hosts, told us about the history of their property and offered tips regarding parks, groceries, etc. The Bunkhouse has a great patio with a gas grill and good sized table and chairs. After hiking all day, we utilized the grill most nights. There is a grocery store called Joe's in Panguitch that has a great meat counter along with other staples you will need. There is also a state store in Panguitch if you want a bottle of wine, spirits, or local specialty beers. We would go the extra 10-15 minutes north of Bryce to Panguitch before heading back to Glendale if we needing anything. There is also a great BBQ restaurant in Panguitch called Cowboy's Smokehouse Cafe. We hiked Zion for two days and Bryce for two days. In Zion we hiked the Canyon Overlook Trail and The Narrows. If you plan on hiking the Narrows, make sure you get there EARLY! (Be on the river by 8:00 a.m.) Otherwise, it's like a public pool. Lots of people. You can also rent special boots and socks at Zion Outfitters in Springdale. We picked up our equipment the afternoon before our hike and returned them the next day. You will need a hiking stick! In Bryce we hiked the Rim Trail the first day and went down into the canyon and did the Navajo Loop Trail and Queen's Garden Trail together. Back at the Bunkhouse, make sure you go out on the driveway or walk down by the horse pasture to see the stars! They are incredible. Saw the Milky Way and a shooting star one night. All in all, great place to stay.

We had a great time at the Bunkhouse. It had all the amenities we needed, was perfectly situated between Zion and Bryce parks, and was a perfect spot to wind down after long, hot days. During the height of the summer, the upstairs bedroom gets a bit too warm, but the lower bunk room slept quite comfortably. Highly recommend!

The cabin was tucked away and secluded but was homey and peaceful! The property was so lovely with horses gazing in the front pasture. The hosts were very welcoming with open arms and were always there if you needed anything. The area has a country mountain feel with open wide meadows with wooded terrain. Almost like home was "HappyOurs". In fact, Karren's grandfather painstakingly built the bungalow where he and his family spent many happy hours together, while she was a child. Karren and Dave lovingly restored it, continuing the traditions set by their forebears carving details in each room. The kitchen was well equipped with measuring tool, sharp knives, plenty of serving/mixing bowls and a few desirable provisions, ie. flour, sugar, coffee. There was a grill and back porch dining table, a near-by bench under a tree perfect for bird watching and an original front porch that Karren's grandfather had built. Ideally located between Zion, Bryce Canyon, the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and complete with starry nights and friendly host and hostess just next door.

After 6 days of exploring the National & State Parks in the area, it was always relaxing to retreat to the horses & the setting of Happy Ours Ranch. Dave & Karin were so accommodating in every way. Dave's recommendations for exploring were always right on the mark, right down to the park elevations on the questionable weather days. We were even blessed with a dusting of snow on the fall colored leaves the last day we were there. Icing on the cake! Thank you both for such a nice stay.

Our family of 4 traveled to Utah to explore the national parks - Bryce, Zion and the Grand Canyon. This clean and comfortable cabin (the Bunkhouse) was conveniently located equidistant from Bryce and Zion. It was the perfect place to return home to after each day of hiking. The kitchen is well equipped (we shopped and did most of our own cooking); there's also an outdoor grill. Two bathrooms meant shorter lines for the shower. We had movie nights using the Roku. The hosts, Karen and David, were warm and welcoming. Their own house is a short walk from the Bunkhouse, and they were accessible and responsive to our needs (our son came home with sandals caked in clay after a hike in Zion; they kindly provided hose and scrub brush so we could clean them!). the loft area includes a bedroom with double bed, plus an open space big enough for stashing luggage, doing yoga or working out. While the bunks on the first floor could accommodate additional people, we found the cabin to be the right size for two teenage sons and our ourselves. The space retained a comfortable temperature - we opened windows at night to admit the cool air and closed blinds during the day to keep out the heat. There are fans upstairs to help clear out stuffiness at the end of the day. Note that the Bunkhouse is located at the end of a long dirt road. We were glad to be driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee. We did enjoy seeing the horses on our way in and out. All in all, we would happily return to this well-cared-for get-away.

Prior to and during the stay communication with Dave, Karren, and Maegan was great with quick responses. The Bunkhouse was spotless, no dust on baseboards where you frequently find it. The beds slept fabulously and that is a rare find. The kitchen was well stocked and there were plenty of linens. We were there the last week of July and the Bunkhouse does not have air condition but we never noticed. It was never hot, in fact a little chilly in the mornings. Loved the cozy feel of the Bunkhouse and its history. The location of the house was perfect to visit Zion, Bryce, and the north rim of the Grand Canyon National Parks. Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park and Red Canyon were other great finds. We had a great trip, our seven days was not long enough. Would definitely choose to stay at the Bunkhouse again.

It was exactly as advertised. It was quiet, well-stocked, very clean and comfortable. Karen and Dave were the most generous and hospitable hosts, and just all around lovely people. We used this place as a hub for our adventure, including Zion, Bryce Canyon, Cedar Breaks, and Coral Pink Sand Dunes. It was perfectly situated to easily day trip to all those places, plus many more we didn’t have time to visit. Our family of 4 loved staying here.

"Cool House"

It's funny how at home you can feel thousands of miles from your actual home. But, this place felt like that and more! First of all, Karen and Dave (and Oso!) were so wonderful and hospitable. Upon arriving, they welcomed us and gave us a history of the Bunkhouse that's filled with sentiment and family history. The house had everything we needed and plenty of amenities that made our stay a breeze. We have two toddlers that were obsessed with the 4 bunks and spent hours playing in each bed. We stayed super busy during our 5 day stay visiting all the parks in the area which made for super early mornings and late nights. Coming back to the Bunk House was the perfect place to relax after a full day of strenuous hikes in the beautiful parks. The beds were soooo comfy. We highly recommend Zion, of course (as early as you can...we had the most incredible views with little crowds when we went arrived at the the park around 5:30AM), Bryce was also great if your looking for a more relaxed day filled with scenic overlooks, lastly, we highly recommend the Coral Pink Sand Dunes if you're feeling more adventurous. We rented sleds to ride down the dunes. Our kids LOVED that. Be prepared to drive at least 40 minutes to each park, which we didn't mind at all because the drive was so beautiful. Everyday, our 3 year old asked when we were going back to the "Cool House" (the Bunkhouse) and now that we're back home on the East coast, he still asks for the "Cool House". We loved that the humble little house left such a big impression on him. I could go on and on, but if you've read this far, you can tell that we obviously can't recommend the Bunk House enough. Thank you Dave, Karen and Megahan for your hospitality and for making the process so smooth. We hope to come back to the "Cool House" again in the future. Blessings, The Thompsons

This was a very cozy place with wonderful hosts. Dave and Karren provided everything needed for a week's stay - plenty of kitchenware, towels, and even enough paper towels and toilet paper! The cabin had loads of brochures of places to explore in the area. The location was ideal for Zion and Bryce, as well as Cedar Breaks, Red Canyon, Kodachrome Basin State Park and other areas. The town of Kanab was a fairly easy drive for dinner, and we enjoyed Sego, Wild Thyme, and Vermillion 45. Also, Oscar's in Springdale had a fabulous breakfast. Overall, a very comfortable stay in a beautiful location!

Wow, The Bunkhouse was such a lovely cabin to stay in during our time in Utah. Dave and Karen are such warm, kind, vibrant, and thoughtful hosts. The Bunkhouse was very clean, cozy, and comfortable. There were plenty of towels, blankets, and cookware. We especially loved the grass area among the trees where we spent time playing guitar in the mornings. It was such an awesome getaway and we are already planning to come back and visit soon! Will be staying at the bunkhouse again :)

The Bunkhouse is located In between several National Parks which made it easy for our hiking adventures. We hiked a little over 84 miles the week we were there and the Bunkhouse was the perfect place to relax and unwind after a long day. Located “off the beaten path” it is very peaceful and somewhat secluded. Dave and Karren (and Oso) were wonderful hosts and gave us several places around the area to explore. We would highly recommend staying here and we will definitely visit again!!
