Walk or drive down to Matheson Lake, a very popular spot to swim with various hiking paths. The Galloping Goose Trail is just a few more steps. Ride your bike to the Metchosin town core, Roche Cove, Sooke, or as far as historic Leechtown. Pedder Bay Marina is a great spot to grab a Starbucks coffee and stroll along the docks where you will see a variety of birds and sea life. Rent a power boat or kayak and explore the beautiful and clam bay.
During the summer (non-burning) season, guests are welcome to use our propane fire pit. We provide one propane tank at the start of your stay; however, we’re not able to provide unlimited propane. If you plan to use the fire pit frequently, additional propane can be obtained by exchanging the tank at the nearby corner store or by bringing your own. **IMPORTANT- We ask all guests to ensure that they have trip cancellation and extended health coverage at the time of booking. Refund requests outside our cancellation policy for personal health reasons and unexpected weather events (that may cause road closures or other delays) such as: snow storms, flooding, forest fires, power outages, ferry cancellations, etc. will not be given. Thank you for understanding why we these cancellation policies in place for our small business.

The Guest House and general property all around was charming and very well kept. There is a surprise for guests as they drive up the long gravel path to the guest property. I will not divulge it, because the surprise is fun. The kitchen was fine for cooking. There are lots of small appliances hidden away in the cupboards so be sure to check. The rooms were comfortable, and we made use of the sofa couch. There is one bathroom. The balcony chairs and table were lovey with a tranquil view. We made use of the barbeque and enjoyed drinks and conversation on the balcony. We did not have time for the hot tub, but I am sure it was lovely and they were very clear in their instructions on being sure to shower first before using. Amanda answered any questions right away and was very helpful. The property is a little isolated but in fact close to many places of interest. We visited many spots along the coast around Sooke and beyond and also picnicked and waded at the Potholes. There are many hiking places all around. The water was already a little cool for us in mid-September, but I imagine there are many good places to swim in the warmth of summer. It was enjoyable to come back to the guest house after a long day. I could tell the hosts work very hard to keep up the property but were very friendly when we met them. I loved seeing all their workshops, curious art works and antiques around the property. There is tasteful art inside as well. All in all, we had a wonderful stay.

We were part of a family gathering that included parents and four grown children. Mom and Dad were in "Cozy Cabin Getaway", while we stayed up the hill in the "Guest House". We really enjoyed the proximity of the cabin for meals and hot tubbing, but then enjoyed the fact that our accommodations were separate. We would highly recommend booking both properties. Matheson Lake Park offers hiking trails as well as swimming, and it is only a short walk away. We also went salmon fishing in Sooke, and enjoyed a fish fry down at Mom and Dad's cabin. The acreage is off the beaten path, but that just makes it more inviting. Dave and Amanda were great, but their pups, Sidney and Buddy were even greater. We highly recommend the property(ies).
