House in Puerto Plata

About this house rental
We’ve been coming to this house for years, and we never want to leave. It sits directly on the Atlantic. Not just near the ocean. Not just “ocean views” from the balcony. Step onto the private porch and open water stretches as far as the eye can see.
Costambar is a quiet, gated residential community just outside Puerto Plata. There is a mix of Dominicans and Expats living side by side. The neighborhood has a mix of local and international-style restaurants a short walk from the house.
The most beautiful part of Playa Costambar is a flat, easy 8-minute walk. The beach is a one-mile crescent, protected by coral reefs, with a gentle surf that’s perfect for kids, swimming, and snorkeling.
We have 32 guest reviews and a 9.8 rating, which means a lot to us. This house is special to our family. Our guests keep coming back, and once you’ve had morning coffee on the porch watching the sun rise over the Atlantic, it’s hard to imagine starting the day anywhere else.
ABOUT THE COMMUNITY:
Costambar is one of the North Coast's hidden gems. This is the real Dominican Republic, not the resort version. The neighborhood association maintains the guarded gate and the public areas. There is a mix of natural land and garden landscaping.
The palm and sea grape lined beach is a pleasant 8-minute walk from the house. It’s a wide, one-mile crescent with soft sand and calm, warm water protected by coral reefs. It’s ideal for families with children. There are tropical fish in the shallows for fun snorkeling. And long walks are rewarded by beautiful views in every direction.
Beachfront cottage restaurants serve Dominican food, fresh seafood, tropical drinks and cold cerveza. Lounge chairs rent for a few dollars a day. There’s plenty of shade for reading or napping. Los Mangos, a manicured, laid-back golf course with tennis courts, pool, spa, and gym, is a 15-minute walk from the house.
A bodega with everything you need, pharmacy, restaurants, and taxi stand are a pleasant 15-20 minute walk. It’s also easy to call a taxi to the house, or in town.
OFF-SEASON ADVANTAGES:
Flights and car rentals are dramatically cheaper. Beaches are uncrowded. The island turns lush and green in a way it isn’t during the winter. Yes, there are showers, but they are usually brief and the sun comes back reliably. Off-season is one of the DR's best-kept secrets.
HOUSE DETAILS:
Our house is ideal for families with children or a group of friends. It has 2,000 square feet, three bedrooms, three full bathrooms, and sleeps six. Each bedroom has A/C, and there are ceiling fans in every room of the house. The entire house is private, and rented just to your party.
The kitchen is large and fully equipped with a new gas oven. The dining area has a large table. The living room with overstuffed, cushioned beach couch and chairs has near floor-to-ceiling ocean-view windows. There’s excellent WiFi and a washing machine.
The porch is off the living room. It’s the width of the house and has four rocking chairs as well as a table with four additional matching chairs. The backyard has a grassy area with three lounge chairs, and is surrounded by landscaping along the garden walls.
All of this looks directly out to the open ocean. You’ll feel like you’re actually living together, not just sleeping between excursions.
The house is on a quiet street that runs parallel to the ocean. There is a driveway for off-street parking with a covered area for one car, another car will fit behind.
Isidro, our property manager of 10 years, checks to make sure our guests are comfortable and takes care of any issues. Maria Elena cleans twice a week.
