About this cottage rental
Grand Pic is a self contained gite adjoining our house and situated in grounds of 8 acres. We are surrounded by rural countryside creating a safe haven for our guests to enjoy the pool and gardens in complete safety and security. This is the perfect quiet and peaceful location to enjoy the beautiful Languedoc countryside. At night there is no noise or light pollution to impede your view of the night sky or muffle the sounds of nature.
The gite sleeps six but our smaller gite, Petit Pic, may also be booked allowing for groups of up to 10.
Guests have use of a 10m x 5m heated pool equipped with sun beds, pool towels and inflatable pool toys and floats.
The gite has a fully equipped kitchen and full laundry facilities. There is also a charcoal BBQ. Meals may be taken on the open air terrace overlooking the gardens or at a large dining table with ample room for 6.
The property is situated in the heart of Cathar country and is just half an hour s drive from the World Heritage listed citadel at Carcassonne. It lies in the middle of the AOC Malpere wine region with many small producers close at hand offering the opportunity to taste and buy the local wines.
Around the nearby town of Limoux you will find Blanquette de Limoux, a sparkling wine produced using the methode champenoise.
For those who are looking for a more active holiday we are close to the GR7 hiking trail, and a short distance from beautiful walking trails in the French Pyrenees. Mountain bikes can be hired locally. Canoeing and kayaking is available on the River Aude, with a watersports centre in Limoux. More watersports and activities can be found at the Lac de Montbel, along with a family beach with boats and pedaloes for hire. The lake is located a short distance from Mirepoix. Horse riding is available close to the property. There are further activities at Lac de la Cavayere, close to Carcassonne.
Alternatively, if your preference is for a day at the seaside it is just over an hour s drive to the Mediterranean coast at Narbonne Plage.

Grand Pic was clean, roomy and airy with fans provided - helpful on hotter nights. Ian was very helpful when our delayed train complicated our arrival plans, with other helpful suggestions eg markets suggested when we asked. We loved the peace and quiet of the area and abundant birdsong and wildlife. Citronella candles were a kind extra - we were glad of personal insect repellent! The pool provided a tranquil place to cool off with comfortable sunbeds and a welcome sunshade when the weather really warmed up. Pool and some other toys were available; children are clearly welcomed.The location was a good base to explore Toulouse, Carcassonne and the dramatic foothills of the Pyrenees; the scenery changed in quite a short distance. We found a good circular walk from nearby Hounoux with interesting information boards and spectacular mountain views both south and north - good for a cooler day.

Les Propriétaires sont très gentils, très serviables, et discrets. Toujours à notre écoute. Le logement est spacieux. Nous avons eu l'impression d'être seuls au monde, alors que Ian et Sue avaient d'autres vacanciers. La piscine commune est très bien. Tout l'équipement dans le logement est bjien pensé. A recommander !

Vacances en famille très réussies, le gîte est grand, bien équipé, bien agencé. Les aménagements extérieurs sont très agréables.
Ian et Sue sont adorables et très disponibles.
Je recommande ce gîte pour des vacances reposantes en famille
