Great location but needs serious housekeeping and maintenance.

Great location with nice layout and free parking

Poorly managed. Cleaning was superficial, kitchen utensils were old and some need discarding. Sofa was uncomfortable. Blankets and cushions felt dirty and evidence of insects in toilet. The house felt untidy in some places. No welcome pack - no spare toilet rolls or basic toiletries. Needs better housekeeping and attention. Downstairs toilet door does not shut.

Amazing property in a fabulous location with excellent comfortable facilities.

Excellent Kitchen/diner with modern facilities Good bathrooms Fantastic location close to the centre of town / local amenities and a good base for walks out into the peak district. Warm and cosy despite the cold weather Host was very helpful assisting in getting in despite a frozen key-safe.

Ran out of toilet roll and need to have more provided please. Late contact through booking.com/Host and Sykes cottages with details to enter the property although this was quickly resolved with a phone call. Minor niggles really

New year's eve stay

Good location, kitchen and the dining areas were just right for our group. Plenty of plates, glasses etc. Bedrooms were comfortable.

No shampoo, just a bar of soap in the bathroom. No soap dishes by the sinks and showers. No toilet roll holder. Insufficient toilet paper for a large group staying for three nights. Cobwebs all over the walls, ceilings, and lights. In the kitchen the bottle opener was broken, no colander. It would have been nice to have some milk in the fridge on arrival. We couldn't find the information pack. Most importantly, not receiving the key entry instructions until we were on our way to Bakewell was very stressful.

Overall an excellent place to stay, short walk to the town centre we stayed for 4 nights and didn’t use the cars.

We liked the space and the equipment, plenty of glassware, crockery and pans. Bedrooms were spacious and comfortable beds, bathrooms also good.

The house has capacity for 8 but sitting in the lounge for 8 would be a squeeze and improvement on the sofas would be great.

Location was perfect for our weekend away in Bakewell. Two minutes from the town centre but still nice and quiet.

There wasn’t enough toilet roil for 8 people but everything else was fantastic!

Beautifully warm & welcoming house in a perfect location

Had a little problem with key collection - thought I had been emailed the keysafe code but it was a pin code which I'm still not sure what that was for. Rang a number and went to voicemail, rang another number for Sykes Holiday Cottages and the man I spoke to was very helpful and managed to get the keysafe code for us. The location of the house is perfect, with the centre almost on the doorstep, had allocated parking spaces, the house it self is very well kitted out with everything you could possibly need, it was warm and welcoming, bedrooms were all beautifully fitted out, clean & very comfortable, lounge/dining area was perfect for our group of 8, very short drive to the beautiful Chatsworth House, this was great as had the Christmas market in full swing and the Christmas garden light trail was brilliant. Lots of local pubs & restaurants withing easy walking distance from the house offering some great food & drinks, we visited The Peacock, The Wheatsheaf & The Woodyard (highly recommend them all) there are also lots of little local shops, craft fairs, antique markets to explore, the River Wye is over the road from the house and has a nice path for a riverside stroll - what more could you want for a great weekend away with friends?

great house, fab quirky details, fab location close to all amenities and the lovely town centre

loved the spacious rooms the unusual ornaments and decor amazing beds and attention to detail; cushions etc great table and plenty of crockery and glasses etc fab location

it’s a shame that given the attention to detail that the sofa was a let down it’s very stained and not very comfortable to accommodate the amount of people the property can house it comes apart so you can’t even squeeze someone else on as they come apart Also had lots of cobwebs in the rooms on light fixtures ext …again not a major problem and didn’t effect the stay but for the price of the property and given the attention to detail in other areas this let it down

All in all I would recommend this lovely big house.

Excellent location, nice big bathrooms with very warm under floor heating, just what you want on a cold morning. All 4 bedrooms are very spacious and lovely comfortable beds. Plenty of parking. Unfortunately the heating wasn't working when we arrived but a quick call to the owners and they were soon there to sort it out.

Unfortunately we couldn't get the in-built coffee maker to work and the lounge chairs we felt needed updating to something with a higher back and more seating. We were a party of 6 in a 8 person capacity house and struggled to sit down together comfortably. The shower cubicle in the family bathroom needs the sealant replacing around the bottom as it was very black and quite off putting.
