My stay here was heavenly…almost. There were so many great things about this stay, but just a few things that stopped it short of perfect.Pros: - The pool. I enjoyed this so much more than I thought I would! It was so refreshing and lovely, especially at the end of a long hot day. - Location. As others have noted, it’s just a few minutes from Saint Remy either on foot or by car. Saint Remy is just the right mix of lively but not too busy, and it’s very charming. Easy access to villages like Gordes, etc, too.- Private grounds. So many of the other rentals I looked at had shared grounds. Having the whole garden area to myself made the stay incredibly peaceful. - big comfy couch!- the place is well stocked.Cons:- The beds. I had a really hard time sleeping. The mattress in the main room is thin and there’s a big vertical bar that runs down the middle of the bed frame, which I could feel when I rolled over. The matress in the other room is thicker but hard and stiff.- the lawn (or lack of it). One of the main reasons I chose this place was that I wanted a nice grassy yard for my dog to run around in. Unfortunately, the little stones that in the pictures form a border around the grass now cover the whole yard. There is no grass at all and the stones are very sharp and pointy and brutal on doggy (and human!) feet! - the stairs are so much steeper than they look, and there is only a rope for railing. The top step in particular is very high.

This is the 2nd time we have stayed in this house. It has everything you need and is just a 15 minute walk into St Remy. Lots of places to visit, great restaurants and wonderful walks close by with the dog. The host is very hands off which suits us. The 4 weeks there passed quickly and our dogs had free run of the enclosed outside area.

We enjoyed our week in St. Remy, but were disappointed by the property and wondered why there had been so many positive reviews. Yes, it is rustic, but it should still be well equipped and functional. To note that the toilet and sink had been reported broken by a traveller in April, we were shocked to find it still broken as well as the toilet door handle to add to it. It is not okay for the owner to use a chalk board in the kitchen to write down the problems if there is not a clear undertaking of solving them. The lighting in the property is poor and some aspects unsafe (landing at the top of the stairs). The main bedroom door would not close and was glass paneled - not ideal. We could also hear every move our son made in the loft room. There is no doubt that the owner is a nice man, and was good enough to buy us a kettle for the kitchen; but having experienced many other properties, this was very overpriced to the point where we felt slightly ripped off, and it was absolutely evident that no money from the rental was being reinvested in the property. Positively, the garden was lovely if not a little tired, and we tended to spend all our time out there as the house was so dingy downstairs. It needs investment in new electrics, decent lighting, a new toilet and kitchen appliances and generally some tender loving care.
