Aurora Distillery Cabins

Our stay was more than just lovely, it was magical. We achieved what we had come for, which was to see the Northern Lights, but on top of that, we absolutely loved the place. The cabins have everything you need for a stay of a few days and, for a couple at least, they are very well equipped. They are very clean, and the furniture is in excellent condition. We took the distillery tour and absolutely loved the experience. It was very interesting, and the staff were extremely kind to us. They even went out of their way to give the tour in English because we were the only ones who did not speak Norwegian. They also prepared gluten-free food for me because I have coeliac disease, which I really appreciated. I also found the whole branding concept very interesting, and I think it is fantastic how they have extended it throughout the experience and the surroundings, such as with Odin’s chair.

Wi-Fi: It doesn’t make much sense that only one person per cabin can connect to the Wi-Fi. It should allow at least four users, since that is the capacity of the cabins. Cleaning: It is true that everything was very clean, and you can clearly see that a lot of work and effort goes into keeping the place that way. However, there were a few small details that could be improved. For example, there were some plastic bottles underneath the cabins and a few pieces of cheese just under the oven. I understand that this is a difficult area to clean, but perhaps a small brush could help. Key collection system: The system for collecting and returning the keys could be improved. The current system is not particularly difficult, but the keys can be hard to insert and remove, possibly due to temperature changes. The code mechanism can also be difficult to operate, as the dials do not always move and turn smoothly. Temperature detector/sensor: Honestly, this did not seem to work very well. Every time we turned the cooker up to level 6, it seemed to get stuck, and we had to reset the circuit breakers to get it working again. Just an idea: If you are collaborating with The Highland Soap Company, I would consider using the same Whisky & Honey range for all the products in the cabins, rather than just the hand soap. I think this would reinforce the scent throughout the cabin as part of the branding, helping guests associate the experience with that particular fragrance. And the scent itself is amazing. One final idea: When I first arrived and saw all the weapon-themed elements, etc., I honestly thought it might be some kind of shooting or paintball facility. Later, during the distillery tour, the staff very kindly explained that it was related to the history and theme of the bunkers, but honestly, I don’t think that concept is immediately clear.

The view and location of this place is fantastic! Also highly recommend visiting the distillery for a tasting and tour, the staff is lovely.

A potential I see is to have the distillery open more hours and offer breakfast and dinner there for the cabin guests. It would really add the touch that this place deserves. We appreciate that there was a well equipped kitchen available, but when you’re on vacation you sometimes just want to be able to eat somewhere and that was very limited in this area.

If you enjoy camping this could be great for you if not be ready for german 1star hotel standard (but for the price of a 4star hotel). Basic kitchen equipment, a dirty bathroom where the shower is just a curtain that seperates the toilet from the wall, the double bed are two single beds with an uncomfortable matress and only two towels per person no matter the duration of the stay. U cant open the windows and you cant use the hottub nor the sauna if you havent opted for the "luxury cabin". Expect answers delayed by 24-48hrs, no staff at sight. I guess all positive reviews stem from exact those two cabins- so be sure to book the luxury option.
