Activities: In Baabe, there is a surf school with surfboard rentals; beach volleyball and boat tours are available. There are also beach cafes, restaurants, and cozy fishermen’s pubs. In the neighboring town of Sellin, there is a swimming pool with a water slide. If you’re interested in scuba diving, the local diving school in the neighboring town of Göhren is the place to go. Smaller charter companies offer a wide range of options for deep-sea anglers, including expert guidance. You can enjoy the fresh sea air on beach walks along the promenade to Göhren (3 km) or Sellin (2 km). Other guided hikes in the Mönchsgut Biosphere Reserve showcase a unique landscape. If you left your bike at home, you can rent one in Baabe and explore the numerous sights on a bike tour.
Sights in the region: The Baabe region offers numerous attractions: The longest pier (393 m) is located in Sellin. Granitz Hunting Lodge, not far from Baabe, offers a fantastic view from its 38-meter-high observation tower all the way to Stralsund and Hiddensee. Take the narrow-gauge railway and steam locomotive “Rasender Roland” for an adventurous ride from Göhren to Baabe to Sellin to Binz to Putbus to Lauterbach and back again. Boat tours are offered from Baabe/Bollwerk “Around Vilm”; from Göhren and Gager to Usedom, the islands of Oie and Ruden, and the chalk cliffs; and from Sassnitz to Trelleborg, Bornholm, and Copenhagen. On your way to the “Zicker Alps,” the Mönchgut salt marshes, the megalithic tombs near Lancken-Granitz, or the flint fields near Mukran, you can take a break from your bike ride for a picnic in the countryside.
Sights on Rügen: The chalk cliffs, the famous Königstuhl, and the Stubbenkammer are arguably Rügen’s best-known attractions. The view across the Baltic Sea is truly impressive. Whether from the beach or a fishing boat, the view of the chalk cliffs is unparalleled. The two lighthouses on the 46-meter-high cliffs of Cape Arkona are the most photographed structures on the island. But you should also plan to visit Ralswiek Castle and the Störtebeker Festival in Ralswiek, Spyker Castle, Rügenpark in Gingst, the summer toboggan run in Bergen, and the Hanseatic city of Stralsund with its Old Town during your vacation. And of course, don’t forget “Söte Länneken,” the car-free island of Hiddensee. You can also experience the island from a bird’s-eye view with a scenic flight over Rügen departing from Güttin Airport. You’ll enjoy a unique panoramic view of Rügen’s charming landscape, including its incomparable Bodden and coastal scenery.
