Maré Alta - Casa de Férias

A spacious, very clean and extremely well located apartment with a breathtaking view of the ocean.

Maré Alta - Casa de Férias is wonderfully situated in a small village for a very local experience and enjoys an outstanding view of the water and coastline to the northeast of the island. Sunrise was beautiful and sitting on the deck each morning with breakfast and coffee will remain one of our most treasured memories from the trip. The home feels larger and more spacious than the pictures suggest and was well equipped for cooking in which we did a few times. The host was very nice, easy to reach and helpful - we had the sense that she really cared that we enjoy our stay. The welcome basket indeed made us feel welcome. When we return to Sao Miguel we will again want to stay at Maré Alta and in the small village of Maia with its excellent fruiteria and access to trails just out your door.

The deck is wonderful - we would have preferred fewer plants out there as they attracted flies (we hung fly tape which helped) and obscured the view a bit but that is personal preference only as others may feel differently and the pictures clearly show the many plants.

The view of the coastline is phenomenal (as shown) and the property has a large terrace with deck chairs and a dining table from which to enjoy it. The kitchen and bath are modern and comfortable with good water pressure with plenty of hot water. The kitchen is well-equipped with appliances, dishes, cookware, etc. The property is a lovely, updated home that feels like a HOME, not a rental. The host provided a generous Welcome Package of wine, cheese, bread and other comforts for our arrival which was an unexpected and appreciated surprise. Free parking is conveniently available across the street. It was easy to walk to the beach, hiking, grocery, pharmacy, and restaurants. The village is quiet and charming, it felt a bit like stepping back in time.

We only used the bedroom connected to the terrace so can’t speak to the comfort of the other bedroom. The bed was fine for one person, but not very comfortable for two (can feel every slight movement). That being said, travel is always a challenge because our Sleep Number bed has spoiled us. :) We couldn’t get the microwave to work, but we did not reach out to the Host for help so that’s on us. We understand why people choose to use fluorescent lighting, but a little brighter and warmer lighting in the living room and bedrooms would be nice.

Excellently equipped, tastefully furnished house. Cleanliness, tranquility. Parking is not a problem. Good value for money. Look no further if it can be booked at the time you are looking for!
