Pedestrian apartment, the best location

We were not given the original apartment we rented- the manager said the elevator was unreliable and we were on the 7th floor. Then he didn’t come to let us in as planned. He walked us through a complicated locking system for a outer metal door then an interior door by phone. The apartment was a beautiful old design with an inside courtyard core, 7 door ceilings.and new kitchen, baths and it had a washer/dryer. The neighbors were nice and did show us how to open the door to exit the building. However our promised first floor apartment was actually up two flights of stairs with NO WORKING ELEVATOR. We managed fine once we dragged our things up narrow dark and twisting staircases. Main issue was it was MOT set up for guests. We had to find bottom fitted sheets and ended up using duvet covers we found for top sheets because we we not comfortable using their old quilts as our top sheets. Then we found pillow covers to put over the old pillows provided. We dug around and found towels. But there were no instructions for the house. - never got the TV or oven working and never saw a phone. Luckily we had our cell phones. And there was no space in the closets- they were jammed packed with clothes with out a hanger to spare., drawers also were packed with clothes so couldn’t hang up anything. We just lived out of our suitcases. (It even came with used dental floss on the bathroom sink. Really loved the apartment but felt like we had thrown someone out of their home. Not a standard VRBO situation with a locked owner’s closet.
