THe MAEC museum in Piazza Signorelli will give you all the details. You can arrange a trip to the Parco Archeologico Del Sodo to see some Etruscan areas.
There are usually open air concerts during the summer in the Piazza Signorelli (named after a famous renaissance painter who was born in Cortona) - everything from a jazz/blues band to the Carabinieri band doing their thing to operatic festivals.

Lake Trasimeno:
Located south of Cortona in the Province of Umbria this is the 4th biggest lake in Italy and was the scene of a famous battle between the Carthiginian army of Hannibal and the Roman Legions in and around 200 BC.
Hannibal defeated a much larger Roman army on the shores of this lake during his famous campaign with the elephants.

On the shores of the lake there is a little town, Castiglion del Lago. Wonderful little restaurants specialising in Umbrian food and wine and with a particular emphasis on fish dishes.

Our stay at Casa Emma was beyond what we could have expected! First of all, Ray was very helpful and communicative from the very beginning. The photos and description of the house are spot on! The views from the house, breathtaking! The house has everything you will need for a relaxing stay in the Tuscan hills! There is absolutely nothing negative to say about our stay, except that the week went by too fast! Thank you, Ray, for letting us share your beautiful home!

The villa is a lovely place to stay, with the most stunning views and tranquil setting. We really enjoyed being by the pool, sitting outside in the evenings and dinners around the farmhouse kitchen table. The house stays cool even in hot weather and the pool was one of the best we have had. Emma is a great host who is easy to communicate with and everything ran smoothly. We really want to go back one day.

A lovely place to stay for a week deep in the Italian countryside. Somewhere to get away from it all.Fantastic pool. Lots of outdoor areas to sit in the sun or the shade. Highly recommended.

Villa Gioia is a lovely place to stay for a family or small group of friends. It has fabulous outside space, great location and well laid out interior giving the feeling of a much larger villa. It’s very well equipped for cooking and outside entertaining. Also excellent value for money for this prestigious area.

We had a very nice and relaxing time there because it is very quiet in this area. We can only recommend this property.

The garden, pool and exterior were nice but the interior is outdated. Too much pots&pans, paintings, accessories. We didn't feel at ease because of that. Couches with blankets, rugs etc. This kind of stuff makes the rooms dusty. Cleaning must be better (dust and spider webs, it attracts mosquito’s). The beds were good. Only two rooms do have airco. The fourth room is a vide above the kitchen and too hot to sleep.

We had a fantastic week in this lovely villa. It really does have everything you could possibly need - a real home from home. Lots of lovely spaces inside and out to enjoy. We loved sitting out in the evenings having dinner and we’re lucky to be there during the Perseus meteor shower and saw lots of shooting stars in the clear skys. We also ate out in the lovely town of Cortona - la buccia with beautifully presented food and a couple of more casual restaurants which were also excellent. The local coop was very well stocked so we shopped there on our way back from days out. Lake Trasimeno is worth a visit with some nice towns around the lake and some beach Ed’s with canoes and paddle boards for hire. After a week in a hectic campsite by the coast this was a perfect retreat and a home that is clearly loved and cared for by the owners.
