A beautiful, peaceful, and charming place with very sweet collection of cute animals. Rooms are ample and decorated with country style flair. We loved the whole experience especially the breakfast.

Beautiful setting with lovely quirky decor and pool.More appropriate for couples with young children

Very good location for a wedding we were going to close by. Very quirky decor and buildings.

Noisy children on plastic motor bikes up and down the verandah outside our bedroom for hours on end. Being told to make sure we book out by 10.00 am by knocking on our bedroom door when it was only 9.30 and we did book out by 9.50am, felt like being back at school.

A true 10/10 stay!

Everything! I don't even know where to start. We stayed here with our one year old son and the place is just simply perfect for travelling with kids, the room was fully equipped for the little one which is so unique and comfortable. The hosts were super friendly and everyone working at San Gabriel was absolutely lovely. The room was super spacious, clean and tastefully decorated, the pool was a dream and the premises were just so beautiful. The breakfast was a one of a kind with every morning the most tasteful and delicious treats. There was simply nothing we didn't like and we will most definitely be coming back next time around.

The photo doesnt do justice, the estate is soo beautiful, the grounds, the room, the breakfast! The owners are fast in response- check in is smooth. Amazing amazing stay!! In fact this is probably the most memorable stay throughoutout our trip, too bad we didnt stay longer! I’d definitely would want to come back if I ever visit the region again in future

Loved it!

The setting is amazing and the hosts are very friendly. The self-catering apartment is well appointed and has everything you could need for a comfortable stay. We were staying there for a wedding close by and I was very impressed with how many mirrors there were for when we were getting ready.

You have to walk through the one room to get to the lounge kitchen (or you could get there via outside doors). This wasn’t an issue for us, but just something for others to be aware of.

Amazing cottage on a beautiful farm

Beautiful cottage with all you need for a relaxing stay. Great communal spaces to unwind. Only downside is that we only stayed 1 night, so have to some back to enjoy more time at this great place.

San Gabriel Homestead is an absolute gem in the heart of Stellenbosch. From the moment you arrive, you’re welcomed by beautiful Cape Dutch architecture, peaceful gardens, and a feeling of calm that immediately makes you slow down and breathe. The rooms are spacious, thoughtfully decorated, and exceptionally comfortable—combining old-world charm with modern touches. Waking up to views of the surrounding vineyards and mountains is truly something special. The grounds are immaculate: tall oak trees, lush lawns, and serene spots perfect for reading, relaxing, or simply soaking in the scenery. What really sets San Gabriel apart is the warmth and hospitality. The hosts are attentive without being intrusive , The farm animals are something special, from Isabella the miniature donkey to Olyf the teacup pig. The location is also ideal: close enough to town and wineries for convenience, yet secluded enough to feel like your own private countryside retreat. If you’re looking for a peaceful, elegant, and authentically getaway, San Gabriel Homestead is outstanding. Highly recommended for couples, families, and anyone wanting to unwind in a beautiful setting.

The most beautiful escape in Franschhoek, counting down to our next visit

We had the best stay on this beautiful farm in Franschhoek. The hosts were so warm and kind, it felt like being welcomed by friends. The setting is truly stunning, peaceful, green, and gorgeous from every angle. The attention to detail made everything feel easy and special. I already know we’ll be back, and next time it’ll be for a longer stay. A real gem, thank you for making it feel like home.

Heaven in Stellenbosch

This is one of the best place I've ever stayed in my whole life, Reiner and his wife are fantastic hosts, they did a great job with this old and historic mansion. they are enthusiastic and you can feel that. you can touch and feel the history of this place, really an hidden gem. our accommodation was breathtaking, the breakfast was huge and delicious, I recommend this place if you want to visit the Cape Winelands, it's in a strategic position and you can experience to live in a real heaven

Absolutely Incredible !!!

Honestly one of my favourite places to stay ! It was our second time staying there and was incredible ! They make you feel like you’re at home but in a super luxurious way. Being amongst the animals and also just on such a beautiful property makes me feel so blessed. The rooms are beautiful and the property has so much history to it. Would 100% recommend staying here !

Beautiful wine land retreat (with animals included)

From the moment we drove onto the property, receiving a warm and hearty greeting from the owners and their canines, we knew we were in for an exceptional stay. The room we stayed in contained beautifully curated antique furniture, an in room fireplace and a large freestanding tub (heaven!). We almost didn’t want to leave our room. Each morning we were treated to a delicious breakfast cooked by the owner (trust us, add the breakfast option you do NOT want to miss this) with fresh coffee, fruit, fresh made croissants, eggs, juice, a proverbial feast! The location was easily accessible from CPT airpor, close to many amazing wineries and restaurants and a quick drive into downtown Stellenbosch. On top of the accommodations they have a beautiful farm with miniature donkeys, sheep, goats, chickens, turkeys and ducks. We were able to go out and interact with all the animals after breakfast. Our hosts helped provide excellent recommendations and we absolutely loved our time at the homestead. We’ll certainly be back again and can’t wait to recommend this slice of heaven to our friends.

Very special cottage and lovely farm

Beautiful farm and family cottage. Super friendly host who prepared a lovely breakfast for us and gave great tips regarding attractions in the area. The cottage is furnished with antiques, even the high chair and crib. It was very comfortable and we can only recommend staying there while being in the area.

Perfect, beautiful, peaceful and memorable - We were only here one night but we have so much love for this place!

Absolutely everything! It was our first family holiday with our 1 year old so we were a bit nervous about everything. Renier greeted us on arrival along with all the dogs and two turkeys, and we just knew we were in the best of places. The grounds and sounds of the homestead are stunning, and we just wish we’d stayed there for longer than 1 night. The facilities were impeccable, the book of information/recommendations was really perfect and we are so so grateful for having been provided with a highchair, a cot, and the bowls/cups/spoon for our daughter. Renier & Shané really thought of everything and we were so relaxed which was quite something when you’re with a 1 year old!

Swoon over the period drama setting

This was a last minute booking and we were bowled over by how Renier and his wife had sympathetically restored this 1756 Cape Dutch Manor house to its former glory. It’s like stepping back in time but with all the mod cons that make life easy in 2024 - like a powerful shower! We stayed in the Willow Cottage and were gutted that only staying one night - could have stayed whole week. Very comfy night’s sleep. Hosts were great and have been very creative in how they are using the space - including a shop selling hand batch made oils and room sprays. Great restaurant nearby that was recommended by Renier.

San Gabriel is a place that lends itself to creating happy memories and our stay was enjoyable.

There is something magical about staying in a well-preserved abode built in1765. The canopy of trees, the beautiful gardens, and quaintly furnished cottages provided a great deal of charm. The hosts are warm and interesting, and San Gabriel is so well situated to wonderful wine farms. I look forward to visiting them again.

There were a few plumbing issues that the hosts were quick to respond to.
