Palazzo d'Assi - Guest house

Lovely, comfortable accommodation in a great location, with easy street parking close by. The host Sabrina was very friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were outstanding, with lots of local products and home cooked cakes. We had a very good stay.

The Forno in Palazzo d’Assi provides charming, characterful and comfortable accommodation in the heart of Monforte d’Alba at an excellent price. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and recommend it strongly. The views from Monforte on a sunny day across the Langhe to the Alps are breathtaking and the walks through the vineyards of Barolo enchanting. Our host provided outstanding and friendly care and support throughout our stay, with precise easy-to-follow arrival instructions.

We liked it but there are key points of which new clients need to be aware before booking: 1. Monforte is a beautiful medieval fortified hill town with very steep cobbled streets. It is not well suited for people with impaired mobility. 2. Il Forno has a narrow and steep staircase, again unsuited to the unfit.

Living in an old house with modern equipment is a beautiful combination. Especially if you open the windows for a view across the Barolo vineyards. The place is very quiet although in the center of Montforte and walking distance to plenty good restaurants.

Gorgeous restored old building, very nicely decorated surrounded by other beautiful old stone houses. Great bathroom.

This place is amazing! The town of Monteforte is conveniently located for wine tasting and other activities in region and is less overrun with tourists than neighboring Barolo (at least when we were there). We originally booked the Il Forno room but it turned out to be rainy when arrived and we were planning to spend more time in the room than anticipated. The room upstairs, the Pianista, was available and the host was kind enough to let us upgrade. It was amazing! Il Forno is a lovely room but the Pianista is stunning and double the size! Both rooms are decorated superbly but the Pianista has views that I will be dreaming about for years. When we arrived it was cloudy so, while we saw lovely views of vineyards and the town of Barolo in the distance, we didn't realize how well we could see the mountains. What an incredible delight when the clouds cleared and The Matterhorn appeared looming over Barolo in the distance. The bed was comfortable. The room had a refrigerator and a microwave, as well as all the traditional amenities. We were able to park on the street outside the building... it was tight but manageable. Communication with the host was great and Sabrina and Chiara were incredibly accommodating to our request to switch rooms (note: we were visiting out of high tourist season). I have already recommended Palazzo d'Assi to friends who plan to visit the region.

Not really something I didn't like... but something to be aware of -the spiral staircase up to the rooms (both of them) is tight. I wouldn't have wanted to get a large suitcase up those steps, but it was easy enough with a small one.

This property was absolutely beautiful.
