Villa Lia Hotel Capri

Unfortunately, our stay at this hotel was far from what a 5* hotel experience should be. There were numerous issues that made the experience frustrating and uncomfortable. The place is a little difficult to find, and if not physically fit, you may find it difficult to access comfortably. We knew this prior to booking, so this part for us was okay and the climb is definitely worth it for the view. Upon arrival, a welcome drink was provided , and a bottle was left in the room as we were celebrating our anniversary. This was a nice gesture from the management. Unfortunately it went downhill from there. Poor Service: The breakfast staff lacked basic hospitality skills and consistently got our simple orders wrong over three consecutive mornings. To make things worse, the chef played loud music from the kitchen during breakfast, which disrupted what should have been a peaceful meal. Unclean Environment: Housekeeping standards were low. Trash was left outside our door daily ( as seen in the photos) the teacups in our room weren’t changed for three days. Room Issues: We found our room door left open at one point after housekeeping had been in, which was a security concern. The plug socket next to the bed didn’t work, the in-room phone was non-functional, and there was no room service menu available. We also weren’t given free daily water. Something you'd expect from a 5* hotel. Occasionally, one tiny bottle was given at night to share between two people. But paid bottles were available in the minibar. Noise Problems: Staff were frequently loud right outside our room and terrace, even during the early hours of the morning, disrupting our sleep. Cleaners were noisy too. Amenities and Misleading Info: Although breakfast was advertised as included, most items came at an extra cost (see photo). Additionally, it was almost impossible to enjoy breakfast outside due to a large number of wasps in the area. We booked a sea view room, however we had trees in front of the terrace, so I wouldn't really class it as 'sea view'. Inadequate Supplies: Despite it being clear that two people were staying in the room, we were only given one towel on a couple of occasions. Privacy: This was a big issue for us. Anyone walking by could see directly into our terrace. So we didn't feel any privacy at all when sitting outside. Our terrace also was located near to some stairs where some of the staff meet and smoke. This meant that the smell of cigarettes would blow onto the terrace every time someone went for a cigarette. I raised the privacy concern to a member of staff after a couple of days. They then showed me another room which is available and more private. This was actually an up-sell and wanted to charge an extra €120 per night if we wanted to move rooms. Overall, the hotel fell short in comfort, service and what you would expect from a 5* hotel. The hotel has a lot of potential, and a great view from the main terrace with friendly staff, but unfortunately, right now I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. For the amount paid, I was definitely expecting more from this experience.
