    We stayed here after a transatlantic flight on our way to the south of England. Perfect stop along the way. Great breakfast.

    I usually camp when on paddleboard trips but being January there was no where local open. I really enjoyed my stay here, it’s a beautiful old building, quirky but lovely. The staff were really very very friendly, the food was good, breakfast was amazing. All in all I had a great time and will visit again.

    We were stuck in traffic trying to get to the hotel for over half an hour. It was clear the road was closed for a firework event. (It was October 26th) when we called the hotel to ask what was going on the receptionist firstly claimed she didn’t know what it was, then that it was firework night, a pre organised event. Given that we had highlighted to the hotel that we were travelling for rest and that my wife had an energy limiting illness, it seemed ridiculous that they had not emailed us to let us know the times the road would be closed so we could have planned accordingly. On our eventual arrival the receptionist did nothing to apologise nor check how we were, simply saying ‘it’s bonfire night’ as if we should have known. The following morning, despite having specifically requested a quiet room the cleaning staff stood at the cupboard outside our room chatting and laughing and actually moaning about the management. When I popped my head out the door they did not alter their volume. As I checked out I shared our experience, and the new receptionist did say she’d pass our comments on. She did cancel any car parking charges (it would have been £10 to park overnight) as an acknowledgment that our stay had. It been the best.
