Great location for a wonderful classic hotel on the UWS. Rooms are a bit dated and smaller. One block to Central Park and one block either way to subways. Attached to a very good restaurant for any meal.

I had requested a quiet and bright room and that request was honoured.. The room was not as large as I had expected from the photos and to my surprise there was no refrigerator in the room when I arrived. When I enquired about this, I was told they were provided "on request" and one was duly installed. Same thing with the bathrobe - I noticed something on the cleaners' cart about bathrobes and enquired about them. Again, they would supply a bathrobe "on request". Despite making the request for a bathrobe in the morning, there was no bathrobe in my room on my return in the late evening, and I had to ask for it again. Housekeeping was on break so it took an age to get it. The coffee machine did not work. Two days running. I'd met this coffee machine in other hotels and as it ages it becomes very unreliable, so when they sent someone to "fix it" the second time I kind of lost patience. I explained that I needed a new coffee machine or a different machine altogether. I was told it would be replaced. Again, when I returned in the evening, there was no coffee machine at all and I had to chase this up yet again. And eventually it arrived. So yes, everything was provided, but this required my being proactive and on top of things and it was uncomfortable and stressful having to ask for these things repeatedly. I'm also quite tall but not excessively so (5'8") so I couldn't understand why the vanity unit in the bathroom was the height for a medium sized child or a decidedly small adult rather than standard height. Was it just the room I was given? I don't know, but the bathroom was not a comfortable place to be in as I felt like a contortionist every time I wanted to wash my hands. I must compliment the cleaners, however. They did a great job, everything was spotless, and I never came back to a room that had not been cleaned, even though in my first days there I slept very late. So a big thank you to them. The location is convenient but be advised that their housekeeping elevators are being renovated so sometimes you get stuck waiting for an elevator as it's being used for service to the rooms, which is understandable. But if this is likely to annoy you, ask for a room on a lower floor so that you can use the stairs. I chose this hotel because of its reviews, but unfortunately I was disappointed. Perhaps I was just unlucky.
