My wife and I stayed at The Athenian Callirhoe in Athens from April 18 to 20, 2026, and we loved our stay. Our room was spacious and clean, with sliding doors that opened wide to reveal a wonderful view stretching far into the distance. The staff were friendly and helpful. We especially appreciated being able to check in at noon, a few hours earlier than expected. We would definitely stay here again if we return to Athens!

Walkable hotel site near great food, historical attractions for first time visitors or returning ping ones

8 / 10Excellent·Sep 2026

We had a pleasant stay at the hotel. The location was very central, which made it easy to walk to the Acropolis, Psyrri, and other attractions. The only downside was the bathroom. It was clean, but quite outdated and could benefit from some renovation. One other thing to be aware of is the city tax. I was told it would be €17, but I was charged €20. I didn’t argue over the €3 difference, but it’s something worth checking. Also, be careful with taxis. We weren’t told that the taxis operate on a meter, and the meter should starts at 0.00 but they start €1.85, so there is a possibility of being overcharged if you’re not familiar with how it works. Fortunately, someone at a local shop explained that you should ask the driver to start the meter from zero, or alternatively use the FREE NOW app. Apart from these points, everything else was nice, and we enjoyed our stay.

We asked for a quiet room away from noise and got a room opposite the lifts and on the busy road side of the hotel. The exact opposite of what we requested. This is a dated hotel that is no where near a 4 start category. The bath/shower did not drain effectively and so whilst you were showering you are standing ankle deep water and suds. There is mould all around the tiles. A really dated and old hotel trying to stay relevant but without some serious updating and some funds to uplift the rooms it is barely a two star hotel. Very disappointed!
