We stayed for the night before our early flight. I guess the only thing to improve is the room access; we needed someone to open the outer door every time we wanted to go to our room

Very convenient for a layover as it is inside the airport. Easy access to food court.

The only flight from SZX to DMK on AirAsia get to DMK at 0130, and the flight out to Chiang Rai, at the earliest is 0700. So I decided to give SleepBox a chance. I thought it would be a better way to spend 5-6 hours in the airport overnight. There were a few things that earned my rating. First, there's no directions on how to find it, and you'd think it would be easy but it's not. You have to go to Aisle 8 of international departure check-in counters, take the escalator in back of it (next to McDonalds), then you can get to it. I took the elevator to the 4th floor, and ended up walking three-quarters of the way around the terminal where the airline offices are, only to find the last quarter of that very long walk to be blocked by construction. So I had to walk all the way back to the elevator, go down, walk all the way back the other way on the 3rd floor, then take the escalator. It would have been nice if they would include directions on how to reach them in the reservation. When I got to the desk finally, check in was relatively painless, EXCEPT that they wanted a 500B CASH deposit for the key. It was no problem, but again, it would be nice if they would warn you in the reservation or the on the website. Many people just passing through on connecting flights probably wouldn't have Thai cash on them, necessitating a trip to an ATM, which none are close. The room: It is an adequate size. The bed felt like an army cot, in all fairness. Very hard, along with the pillows which were similar to rocks wearing pillowcases. The air con is not controllable, you get whatever the airport terminal is getting. The bathroom is, IMO, not up to scratch. There is no hot water. There is a tank on the wall of the shower, but the best I could get out of it was something like lukewarm. Most people wouldn't care I suppose, but I am accustomed to a bum gun. None here. The towels...well, I didn't really want to touch them. They used to be white at some point in their life, but because of multiple washings with no bleach (and little detergent it seems), they have gone a ghastly greyish color, as well as being threadbare and thin. Bring earplugs with you. You will hear the announcements in the terminal all through your stay. You will also hear the heavy vehicular traffic outside your window as the suites are situated on an outside wall, facing an 8 lane highway. Lastly, you'll hear every person coming in through the single door leading to the suites, every room door opening, closing and/or slamming, and every luggage rolling down the bare hallways. All in all, the stay wasn't worth the money. Especially considering that there is a very nice hotel connected to the terminal, about a 5 minute walk by skybridge, for almost exactly the same about of money. I travel frequently to Shenzhen from DMK and my new plan will be to arrive at DMK late at night, stay at Amari Hotel until checkout time of 1200, then take an afternoon flight back to Chiang Rai. That way I can get a decent rest and arrive home with more energy.
