I’m shocked than none of the other reviews mention that this hotel is INSIDE of a morning fish market! It’s not next to it; it’s right inside of it. The smell of rotting fish permeates the lobby, hallways, and rooms for all of the morning hours. If you love waking up to that smell, then you’ll love this place, but this was not the worst part of the hotel. The worst part of the experience by far was dealing with the fool working behind the desk. First of all, he’s never there. Of the several times I walked into the lobby to ask a basic question , he might have been sitting behind the desk 10% of the time. When you do finally find him, he’s less than helpful. For example, the turn-down service misplaced our room key, so I went to the lobby to ask for a replacement key card. He wasn’t at the desk. When I found him, he said “I already gave you two key cards.” I explained why I needed another one, and he said, “we only give two key cards by rule.” After a few minutes of back n forth, instead of just giving me another key card, he made his assistant go up to my room to help me find the card that the cleaning service misplaced. Weird solution. Just give me another card. They are cheap and normal hotels routinely issue as many you want/need. I also requested a room on a higher floor. I told him this upon check-in and he put us on the 2nd floor. Right above the rotting seafood. When I said I asked for a higher floor, he said that the 2nd floor was all that they had. This can’t be true. The hotel is virtually empty and we weren’t staying during a holiday. Oh well. In hindsight, the pungent fragrance of raw octopus, fish eggs, and eel baking in the 35 degree Taiwan summer heat was starting to grow on me anyway. I should have thanked him for allowing me to take in this special part of the local culture. Other delights included refusing to turn on the air conditioning in the lobby or hallways. This is Taiwan in the summer; A/C is a basic necessity for a hotel. The breakfast buffet is truly awful, which is a shame because Taiwanese ppl are normally very attentive to food. How is this hotel offering such low quality in good conscience? I normally don’t complain about anything like this, but the failures of the receptionist / concierge and his general bad attitude was really quite ridiculous. Btw, I speak fluent Mandarin and halfway decent Taiwanese. I have spent many years traveling, living, and working in Taiwan. This place is bad. The room was clean and fine. But this doesn’t make up for the other problems. Don’t stay here. Unless, of course, you love dead and rotting fish carcasses, then this place should be no. 1 on your list.

The shared dorm was OK. The lighting in the capsule could have been better. The breakfast buffet was good and had a wide selection of different things to eat.
