    Had a lovely staycation in Ninh Binh at Pullman. Hien was a lovely receptionist and checked in with us when she met us in the morning. Tracy who checked us in also gave us good recommendations about places to go. Good distance from Hoa Lu Old Town and Tam Coc, Trang An Boat Tours. Many things are working at the expected level of a Pullman hotel. I’ll outline both what went well and points for improvement as I’ve stayed in countless Pullman hotels in Southeast Asia and the one in Hanoi. The hotel is only in it’s first 2 weeks of operation when we stayed but most services are ready to go. The saltwater pool, the bar and the gym was great and clean. Lumi Lounge has some great mousse desserts, perfect for an afternoon tea. Rooms are super spacious (the smallest is 50m^2!!) and we had a free upgrade as the hotel is new and yet to be fully booked. This was lovely. The rooms were well-designed and the amenities were thought out. The pillow really is flawless. The artwork around the hotel immerse you well into the rice paddy feels of Ninh Binh and its surrounding areas. The breakfast is also superb with local dishes as well as a full English w/ coffee and tea flowing. Pastries were also great and as expected of the Pullman standard. My only 2 cents of recommendation would be about lift signage, the bar, and the kitchen offering. Only the 2 back lifts go to the 29th floor where the the Infinity Pool is. We found this out by ourselves. Also, sometimes it’s a bit of a kerfuffle trying to get the correct lift. I had to send some lifts down so I could try “lift roulette” again. On the note of the lift, there are no lifts to the pool which is simply inaccessible for Disabled guests. For a newly built hotel, this took me back a little but I was not sure what the local regulations are. Secondly, the bar. On the first night, we were at the champagne bar. A family came up with small children (e.g. 5 year olds) and one of the boys started throwing rocks from one of the plant pots towards us. He meant no malice of course but bars shouldn’t be a family area, especially at 9:30pm when we were there. Perhaps capping the age at 18+ after 6pm would be more in line with international restaurant standards. A peaceful stay for guests without family is also important - especially as Ninh Binh welcomes more international visitors. The other thing is that the kitchen and waiting staff don’t all speak English. Having lived in a Hanoi for a while and picked up some Vietnamese, some waitresses still struggled with us such as when we asked for the bill, asked for a spoon. Ultimately we are in Vietnam and it’s not their fault that they don’t speak English but it appears that along with a lack of ability, some showed some lack of willingness to try to communicate with non-Viet guests. One of the waitresses was obviously not keen when she realised we were hopeless with Vietnamese. Regardless, a very pleasant stay and would absolutely come back!!
