    We chanced upon this as a result of my bro-in-law's boioking error but it turned out great. The place is grossly under-advertised as it used to serve mainly Japanese clients. It more than make up for this with delightful landlady, a beautiful abode, a great hearth-skewers dinner and breakfast omakase-style with interesting meats. It is a wonderful diversion from a highly commercial Nikko. It sits in the oustskirt of the district but the area has enough attractions to mix-into the ride. A tip -- Do search the internet for reviews and for non-Japanese, try it and be impressed.

    This place is in the Kuriyama area of Nikko, and is perfect to combine with a visit to the farms in the highlands. It is 1hr drive from Nikko centre up the mountains. The minshuku was bright and clean, served a gorgeous traditional hearth dinner of various meat skewers combined with lovely nabe, sashimi and tempura, a simple but perfect breakfast, and crewed by a wonderful landlady and her jolly crew of grandkids. We even got a free tour of the local toshogu shrine from the kids. There are minimal reviews on Agoda but do check out this amazing place!! Foreigners will love this!!!
