I wanted an inexpensive, clean hotel situated right in the Centre of Malaga town, close to all facilities and, of course all that the Marina offers. And that is exactly what I got...
Only a 15 minute walk from the Central Metro rail staion, the Hotel Trebol is only a 1 star rating, but this was far surpassed by the lovely welcome given to me during my 6-day stay by the Reception staff, Pablo and Ana, who helped make my stay much more enjoyable by being so engaging and friendly.
They were always ready and able to answer any questions about the local area... transport, best places to visit, eat, etc.
My room was kept spotlessly clean and totally acceptable for my needs as a sole traveller. It was basic and compact, but, apart from having an open-style hanging space for my clothes, nothing was different from a four star room/toilet/shower, apart from being slightly more compact.
The photos on the hotel website didn't mislead in any way.
I was very satisfied with my choice, especially the price!
Two people could easily be accommodated in the room.
Note there is no bar in the hotel, but being located in the centre of town, there is no lack of tapas and breakfast bars and great restaurants situated almost next door catering for all world-wide culinary tastes.
It's only a few minutes walk away from the main bus stops and about a 10-15 minutes stroll from the Marina (a must go-to location for top class food and drink, but at a wide range of prices to suit all budgets).
Several luxurious, multi-million euro yachts are moored there and are well worth a visit to see how "the other half" lives!
Further on, literally around the corner of the harbour by the lighthouse is a great family-friendly beach. Several new restaurant/bars are currently being built beside the promenade, only two were open when I visited (September 2026).
Every day from 9am there was a free daily coffee/tea/fruit juice/muffin seated area located in the hotel lobby.
My room on the 5th floor had open access to the rooftop balcony which overlooked the nearby hills and also several bars and restaurants, but the late evenings were extremely quiet in my room and I didn't experience any noise from adjacent rooms either.
My overall rating was 10/10.
Exactly what I expected and wanted.
