George Hotel

This is the most difficult review I have had to write so far. The hotel is sublime & is maintained to a high standard. The staff are attentive & immaculately turned out. The town centre location is really where the negative lies. It is ideal for access to shops and amenities but it is also the downfall of the hotel. IT IS BUSY (NOISY) ALL THE TIME. We were in room 110. This room is directly above the main hotel entrance & combined with a mixture of clientele from the local pubs & restaurants remained noisy up until 1am (ish). We then had late revellers, worse for wear & vocal, heading home from their night out at sporadic intervals. We were then kept awake by a female talking/ shouting/ laughing until just after 3am. We thought the noise was coming from outside by the car park until I finally got up with the intention of going to ask the person to quieten down or move on but when I went outside the room it became clear The noise was our next door neighbour on a social media call. Mixed with night time refuse & recycling collections & continual traffic, or sleep quality was poor. Would i go back? YES, but I would ask for a room away from the high street.

Nice little old hotel smack in middle of town. Helpful staff. Great breakfast.

Food was disappointing, but maybe chose wrong dish as had enjoyed food on previous visit. Staff seemed a little harassed and brusque in bar area. Room didn’t look like it had been vacuumed and was noisy from street noise. Large room, comfortable bed
