    I drove 10-12 hours from east Iceland to Reykjavík, only to find upon my arrival that the hotel was overbooked and they didn’t have a room for me. They told me to sit and wait while they checked for a room in other hotels. I’m 70 years old, with both knee replacements, and don’t get around that well. Add to that, I caught some kind of virus on the plane ride over, so overall, I’m feeling a little banged up. Hence, I booked a room for 3 nights in the downtown area near the walking streets, shops, restaurants, bars, etc. Back to the hotel. After waiting in the lobby for over an hour, the lady comes out saying they found me a room: AT THE AIRPORT OUTSIDE OF TOWN! I told her that this was unacceptable because I booked downtown for a reason. She said that was the only room available and wouldn’t refund my 3 day reservation because she had found a replacement, which wasn’t even comparable. Needless to say, we left on bad terms, and I ended up driving to a campsite to sleep in the van. I would still like to hang out in downtown Reykjavík for a few days, but this experience has left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I wouldn’t recommend any of the fosshotels, as I now view them as dishonest, in my opinion.

    Fosshotel was very clean, staff was friendly and helpful but our interaction was limited to the Concierge at check in and out. Parking was available at cost. Room/bath were very clean and bed was very comfortable. Shower was a tiny elevated square but water was great, as expected. Location worked well for us.

    This was the first hotel we stayed at during our trip to Reykjavik. It is a little outside the main city center, but still within comfortable walking distance. The hotel feels a bit more dated compared with newer properties, but it had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. It was also very busy during peak season.
