Familiar Beach Side Village

While the dorms are a bit cramped, the staff's friendliness and the overall vibe of the place make up for it. You're here for Wada beach, and you're going to be out and about most of the time anyway. The izakaya/bar offers delicious food at reasonable prices so although the area might be a little quiet in terms of dining out options, you just need to go up the stairs. In fact, I requested breakfast for my two days and they delivered a great meal. Alas, on my second day I had to leave before they could make it and yet they offered to make me a bento! I declined due to my rush, but the offer was seriously cool. Fair warning, they offer a BBQ space that can get rowdy at night when large groups gather. Not a problem for me, but some folks might not like being so close to stuff like that. This isn't downtown Takahama-cho, so don't expect to have easy access to much in terms of shops and anything but a handful of restaurants, beach houses, and a convenience store. There is a nice coin laundry relatively close, though, if theirs is not enough.

Wakasa Wada Beach is such a lovely area! It is quite popular and I was surprised that there were so many people since the area is quite remote and the trains are very limited (like once every 3 hours sometimes). And eventhough it was a week with a typhoon there were still lots of people swimming and visiting. But please be careful during summer, I got stung by a jellyfish and thankfully the hostel/restaurant gave me some cream for it. As for the hostel itself, it was great! It is close to the action being at the beach itself. The staff were friendly, the rooms/capsules were clean and comfy. The bath and shower rooms were also clean and complete with amenities. The place also has a couple restaurants attached to it. The beachside resto serves some good burgers and snacks. The main resto up top has pretty good meals. The restos and the hostel facilities made my stay here easy and enjoyable.
