About this house rental

PLEASE NOTE: Bookings run from 4pm Sunday to 10am the following Sunday.

Murmur-y-Don is a 1907 Arts & Crafts style house set in just over an acre of land on the top of Harlech Cliff. The location is sensational.

This is generally agreed to be the finest view in Wales, and my great-grandmother gave the field in front of the house to the National Trust to preserve the view in perpetuity. The house has been in the family by direct descent for 101 years.

4 bedrooms, three doubles, one single, the longest bath you've ever seen (original 1907 Edwardian cast-iron), sea views from every room (except the pantry and the shower room!), atmospheric, old, quaint, a real family home. The house is 2000 sq. ft, 186m2.

Over an acre of walled gardens, off road parking for six cars, pets welcome, views to die for. BUT I'm afraid we can't take weekend bookings, or any bookings for less than seven days, and the weeks run from 4pm Sunday to 11am the following Sunday. We are at the mercy of our cleaners.

Beautiful location with Harlech beach right outside the door ( via a killer of a staircase , so beware if anyone with walking difficulties) around 25 minute walk into Harlech town 55 minutes to Abersoch, everything just a short distance away The house was adorable, lots of outdoor space and no lack of amenities inside, special mention for the most comfiest of beds, in every room The binoculars are a big bonus , we spotted dolphins and seals from the garden Thank you for a lovely stay Ps slate mines worth a visit too

We had a lovely time at Murmur-y-Don. A beautiful part of the world and the most wonderfully situated house, overlooking Harlech Beach. The house is old fashioned inside, but that just added to it's beauty and character. We loved that it had been a family home. It gave it a uniquely nostalgic air. It is spacious and very well equipped with everything we needed to feel very comfortable indeed. (Lots of interesting books and games as well) Gywn, the host, couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. Thank you for a lovely stay

The house is an older, beautiful, character filled house-we loved it! The views are spectacular. The garden for our large dog was perfect. I loved being able to sit outside in the early evening, enjoying a glass of wine with some hors d'oeuvres and looking out over the ocean. We enjoyed reading about the history of the home that is provided, along with having access to the over 1500 books that are available to enjoy. Gwyn (owner) was very helpful with ideas for activities. He also responded very quickly to our questions (thank you!). The walk to the beach is just down the hill. The beach itself, on our "zig-zag" end, was uncrowded dog-friendly, and so peaceful. We loved our daily walks with the dog, which extended along the beach, up the road to the castle, drinking coffee in the village, and then walking along the upper road home. It was, for us, a wonderful holiday!

Our stay at this beautiful holiday home was unforgettable. Steeped in history, the house charmed us with its character and breathtaking views. The gardens were a highlight—a forager’s dream filled with fruit and nut trees, perfect for exploring. The host was incredibly friendly and communicated promptly, ensuring a smooth experience from check-in to departure. Everything was as described, and the serene atmosphere made it ideal for a relaxing getaway. Highly recommend to anyone seeking a unique, nature-filled escape. We’d love to return!

The house is charming and full of interesting memorabilia (the room bells!) the information book is quite a treasure trove and beautifully written. We were a group of four adults, one has limited mobility so couldn't attempt the path to the beach (there's a car park and a more level access just beyond the golf club) but all of us enjoyed the splendid views and fabulous sunsets. The drive to the house would be very challenging for a sports car (there is a story there about it being part of the reason land rovers were invented!) our cars bleeped like crazy every time we moved them and you need courage when leaving to turn right as its on a blind corner - channel your inner racing driver! The bed rooms are comfortable with luxurious feeling bedlinen, you have to be gentle with the antique furniture (especially the chairs around the circular table) the kitchen is quaint but well supplied with utensils etc for meals in and the sofas comfy after a day out, we enjoyed the jigsaws and games supplied (especial triv!) I was a little disappointed with the garden, it was much smaller than I thought and not dog secure (our house has a third of an acre and much bigger than the advertised acre here) but the pups didn't try to leave us and were only outside if we were with them. A visitors book would be handy to record places to visit (or not!)Overall a very enjoyable stay, thank you for sharing your home with us

What a view…we all loved our stay at this well located property and feels very much a family home. Albeit lacking in modernity, it made up for with views and character and a very lovely xmas tree. Steep walk diwn to the s
