Casa Metato is a charming stone cottage that was refurbished a few years ago, using traditional methods and local natural materials. Inside, beamed ceilings and an fireplace create a warm, rustic atmosphere with modern comfort.

The house is set in an elevated position 2 km from the historic medieval village of Castiglione di Garfagnana, offering spectacular views of the Garfagnana valley and the iconic "Uomo Morto" mountain.

Accessed via a narrow country lane, the property features a private gated entrance, around 1,500 square meters of beautifully maintained garden, and a range of outdoor amenities including a BBQ, firepit, pizza oven, hammock, a jacuzzi and a private pool (6.5 x 3.5 m) surrounded by terracotta paving.

Inside, the ground floor includes a fully equipped kitchen, bathroom, and utility room. Upstairs, there is a double bedroom and a second bedroom with bunk beds. Spacious porches on both sides of the house provide perfect spots for relaxing and enjoying the scenery.

Our stay was fantastic. Everything was perfect. The welcome was warm and the landlords very friendly, uncomplicated and helpful. The property is beautiful and leaves nothing to be desired, even if the interior is small and, in our opinion, not really suitable for four adults. But who wants to sit indoors in Tuscany? The outdoor area is very comfortable and well equipped and we had a very good rest. However, a vehicle is necessary. And yes, you can hear the road, but it didn't bother us. We would gladly stay again.

The small house is in a secluded spot with fantastic views of Castiglione and the mountains, both from the terrace as well as the bedroom. The outdoor pool and jacuzzi were a really nice addition. The owners welcomed us with traditional food and wine, which was very unexpected but very welcome when we arrived in the late afternoon. They also provided us with a lot of recommendations regarding both restaurants and fun things to do in the area. We highly recommend the house and plan to be back.

We spent three weeks in this lovely house with our two kids (9 and 13 years old). Everything was just perfect - the house is hidden in the forest, so it's really private. The pool is awesome and the whirlpool, too. The house inside is small but really nice, cosy, clean and has everything you need. The owners are very friendly and helpful. The welcomed us warmly and prepared some Tuscan food on the patio for us. The cleaned the pool every few days when we were not there (they always told us before) and we got new towels and linen every week. There are nice restaurants nearby (you can reach them by car within 5-10 minutes). We also tried the pizza oven in the garden a few times, really special! We definitely recommend the holiday house!

We stayed here for one week , from September 9th-16th. When we arrived the owner greeted us, as we were slightly early. He was extremely helpful and the property/views were truly amazing. We could not fault our stay at this property, the weather also helped as it was sunny and warm everyday. Well worth a visit. Locally there are restaurants with amazing food, the owner has a list of recommendations. We particularly enjoyed the restaurant Il Pozzo in one of the local towns

We had a great time with the Object. We were very warmly welcomed by the host and his family. There was great tiramisu, fruit, cold drinks and snacks to welcome us. This was followed by a brief info on all the important points around the house. The pizza oven, the pool and the fireplace together with the great and cozy outdoor area we liked very much. The property is a bit hidden so privacy is guaranteed, however the driveway is still a bit adventurous the first few times. Everything necessary can be found in the immediate vicinity, but a car is necessary. Many thanks to Gabriele, who was always helpful with questions, even via WhatsApp.

All great! The view, house and entire surrounding is very beautiful and special. The owner is very pleasant and helpfull in any regard, welcoming us increadibly warm with a platter of local food, wine and sparkling wine. The house is decorated with love to every tiny detail and all practical matters are thought through very well (even an electic pump for inflatable pool toys was there). We will surely come back!

We spent one week in this lovely house and had a great time! The house itself is really cosy and has everything that you need. And the garden with the pool is just perfect for a relaxing holiday. The owner is very friendly and helpful, he answered all of our questions immediately. He also welcomed us very warmly together with bis family. The area around offers a lot to do, for example visiting one of the beautiful villages around, hiking or shopping. All in all we can highly recommend the house. We had a lovely week staying here. The villa is well equipped and situated in a good location, close to local amenities such as restaurants and supermarkets. The view from the rear of the property overlooks the beautiful valley and mountains. There are many things to see and do within a 10-30min drive from the villa. Gabriele the owner along with his father were extremely helpful and on hand if they were needed. Would recommend staying here!

We had an outstanding fortnight here. A little miscommunication on getting in where we didn’t get a new number sent by email whilst we were en route but generally the team were on hand and couldn’t have been more helpful. It really is a lovely area and the property has stunning views. Home and Away website mentions a living room but the description itself is accurate. There isn’t one. Not quite sure where you’d sit if there was poor weather but we didn’t have that issue. Maybe more than one sun lounger would be useful too But these are minor matters. It’s a gem of a place, very private but just up the road from a lovely historic village with facilities. What a terrace to relax and have a swim with that view. Enjoy the sun rise on the mountains from the bedroom windows. And the dawn chorus is deafening. We loved it!

Beautiful house, excellent outdoor area with new private pool, lawn, nice bbq facilities, covered outdoor dining area, and a superb view of the Apennine mountains. Gabriele, the owner, was very hospitable and had great tips for dining and visits in the area. The Garfagnana area is a very authentic part of Tuscany with lovely medieval towns and stunning nature, without being overcrowded by tourists. Thank you for a wonderful time!

Wunderbarer Ort zum Relaxen

Vielen Dank an Familie Ferrari, die uns wunderbar empfangen hat und auch das Haus und die Einrichtungen gezeigt haben. Die Lage ist wie beschrieben abseits am Berg und ruhig gelegen. Man hört nur ab und zu mal Motorradfahrer von der Straße unterhalb. Täglich haben uns die Eidechsen und Ameisen gegrüßt - was aber überhaupt kein Problem war, da die Echsen sehr scheu sind. Im Haus ist alles sauber und ordentlich. Es ist im OG im Flur ein Fenster mit Fliegengitter vorhanden, das man nachts zum Lüften offen lassen kann. Ebenso wäre bei wärmeren Tagen eine Klimaanlage vorhanden im Treppenbereich. Einzig gestört hat uns etwas der Geruch vom Holz-Ofen in der Küche, der vermutlich durch die unterschiedliche Wärme die Luft über den Kamin angezogen hat. Bei der Anfahrt aus dem Norden empfiehlt es sich einen Umweg über Lucca in Kauf zu nehmen, da die direkte Anfahrt über Modena über viele Serpentinen und Berge verläuft. (Ich glaube wir sind bei leichtem Regen circa 1-1.5 Stunden nur Kurven und schlechte Straßen gefahren - das war etwas anstrengend) Zum Einkaufen muss man nur ca. 10 Minuten den Berg hinabfahren und hat direkt zwei kleinere Einkaufsläden für den täglichen Bedarf in Pieve Fosciana. Empfehlenswert ist dort auch die Pizzeria Il Pozzo. Es lässt sich aber auch super im Außenbereich der Unterkunft (z.B. Tisch mit Stühlen und ein separater Holztisch mit Bänken unter den Vordächern) selbst gekochtes Essen (ob über dem Gasherd in der Küche oder auf Grill oder Pizzaofen im Freien zubereitet) genießen bei tollem Ausblick in die Natur/Berge. Wir möchten uns nochmal bei der Gabriele bedanken, der auch immer per WhatsApp erreichbar ist und Tips geben kann. Ebenfalls erfolgte eine angemeldete Reinigung und Prüfung des Pools durch den Vater vor Ort während unseres Aufenthalts. Diese Unterkunft ist zum Entspannen nur zu Empfehlen.

Casa Metato exceeded all our expectations. An ideal place to relax and let time pass you by. The house is very well-equipped and spotlessly clean. The beautiful pool is privat, no one overlooking the property. From the pool and the terrace you have a spectacular view to Castiglione and the Garfagna area. On arrival we were greeted by Gabriele, the property owner, and his family. We were absolutely flashed about the warm hospitality of the whole family. We appreciate that. The area around the house is ideal for some superior mountain bike tours. We loved our vacation and we are sure to come back for one of our next holidays. Thank’s Gabriele Marion and Erich K.

Die Begrüßung durch den Gastgeber war hervorragend und auch die Kommunikation während unseres Aufenthalts war sehr gut. Es muss einem bewusst sein, dass man mitten in der Natur wohnt und Ameisen, Eidechsen, Mücken und (ein toter) Skorpion dazu gehören. Das Badezimmer ist sehr klein aber für 2 Personen ausreichend. Das Doppelbett hat eine Breite von ca. 140 cm. Für den Durchschnitts Deutschen also eher schmal. Wir würden das Haus jederzeit wieder mieten. Kleiner Tipp noch, da die Adresse nicht ganz einfach zu finden ist. Das Haus liegt zwischen den Schildern SP72/97 und SP72/98.

Leuke woning. Niet super groot maar gaat precies goed met twee volwassenen en twee kinderen. Het gebied is prachtig. Leuke uitvalsbasis om naar Florence, Pisa en Lucca te gaan. Eind april is t nog wel een beetje fris om te gaan zwemmen op deze hoogte maar we hebben desondanks toch een paar keer gezwommen. Er is bijna de hele dag zon overdag dus dan is de verfrissing welkom.

Super einfach Kommunikation und Umbuchung, sehr hilfsbereit und nett . Bei Ankunft wurden wir von der Familie sehr herzlich begrüßt und mit einem Abendessen (Antipast, Wein und Kuchen) überrascht. Die Küche ist voll ausgestattet, alles da was man braucht. Location sehr schön und privat gelegen. Tiere herzlich willkommen. Wir hätten einen sehr schönen Aufenthalt.

A dream location in Tuscany, very private and quiet. An ideal spot for couples. The view is just marvellous. Garfagnana is just a sturdy walk away (and a steep climb back), but lovely for lunch. Host Gabriele and his father gave us a very warm welcome, and were quick to answer our questions via whatsapp. Very hospitable. If it were ten stars, it would be 9 out of 10

Mit einem herzlicher Empfang durch Gabriele und seine Familie begann unsere fantastische Urlaubswoche. Das gemütliche Haus und das Grundstück sind sehr gepflegt. Der Ausblick über den angrenzenden Wald -auch vom schönen Pool aus - in die Berge ist großartig. Tolles Extra ist die Grillstation mit Pizzaofen. Das nächstgelegene Dorf: Castiglione ist sehr hübsch zum erkunden und bietet auch eine Bar für den Aperitivo ( wieder mit Panoramablick von der Dachterrasse) Schön einkaufen lässt es sich beim Bäcker und dem Fleischer in Pieve auf dem Weg zum Supermarkt. Alles per Auto schnell erreichbar. Bei allen Fragen, ob zum Haus, oder zu einer Empfehlung zum besten Strand schicken die großartigen Hosts ganz unkompliziert Ihre Tips per whatsapp. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und danken für die tolle Woche!!

Das Haus befindet sich in ruhiger Lage mit einem super Ausblick auf die Umgebung. Der Empfang war sehr freundlich und die Besitzer sind sehr nett, hilfsbereit und bei Fragen jederzeit erreichbar. Sowohl das Haus als auch der Pool sind sehr gepflegt und entsprechen voll und ganz der Beschreibung. Die Straße, die unterhalb des Hauses liegt stört überhaupt nicht.

We had a very nice stay. The tiny house is in a very lovely area. There are many different activities one can do, but we mostly preferred staying at the pool with a gorgeous view, where nobody distracts you. As I had do bring some work that was really good. Also the wifi was ok. Not the fastest but it did its job. The host Gabriele was very kind helping with everything and also provided some nice Antipasti plate at the arrival after our long drive. Thanks so much for giving us a great time, we really appreciate it! Love to come back in the future.

Very happy we booked this little hidden gem near Castiglione di Garfagnana . Everything went very smooth, the booking, the check-in with the owner Gabriele and the communication throughout our whole stay. Gabriele and his family gave us a warm welcome at arrival and took the time to explain and show us the house and garden. They gave us many tips for activities and restaurants which we were extremely grateful for. Good things come in a small package when I think back about this Villa. Has all you need for a relaxing week away with a beautiful garden and priceless panoramic view. Our kids loved the pool, garden with deck chairs and the outdoor pizza oven . With a family of 5, 2 adults, 2 children (6 and 10) and an easy going Golden Retriever we were more than happy. The Villa has a lot of privacy and simply just a relaxing atmosphere. Would love to come back one day!

For us, two adults and two kids, this was an awesome place, with absolute privacy and everything you could want from a place acting as base for all the experiences in the Toscana region. The house is very well suited for four people and has all the essentials. There is no living room, but there is amble space outside which is all you need really. A large pizza oven and outdoor grill, makes cooking outside easy, and we spent many hours near the pool enjoying the beautiful view over Castiglione di Garfagnana.

Das Häuschen ist klein, aber von außen und innen entzückend. Die Außenanlage mit Pool ist sehr gepflegt. Ob Wandern und MTB in den umliegenden beedruckenden Bergen oder am Pool lesend zu verbringen, erholsamer kann Urlaub nicht sein. Bei 670 m Meereshöhe ist es angenehm warm, abends kann beim Wein draußen sitzend einen Pulli gut gebrauchen.
