I would have expected a little welcome pack, mini hamper etc.
The majority of places I have stayed have provided a welcome such as a bottle of wine/ cream tea, homemade bread etc, even a pint of milk.
A very small outlay on the hosts part has a very positive effect on the guest.

Beautiful property, really great location, central to Cardigan, local pub/restaurant and Poppit Beach, ideal for walking the coastal path and exploring further afield such as St Davids, Aberporth and Fishguard. We took bikes which were well used throughout to get to pub and beach.
No afternoon sun on the lovely rear garden due to shaded areas.
